It's also possible that the backing track is in one of the session slots as well as the arrangement and that's why it can be heard.
It was MUCH better in the transport bar where you would notice it and I don't know how many times I have tripped up on that nowdays (when I first updated Live I had to actually google where the hell it went. Whose smart idea at Ableton was it to move it, make it so tiny then make it a colour which is not registered well with people like me who are colour blind.
