Just so that this doesn't get buried in the tips and tricks section (it's much too nice for that) ...

There's a theme editor for the new Live theme format now :)

Huh, it seems editing Live 10 themes isn't interpreted as being about "music production, audio, equipment and any related topics", and instead is categorized as "anything not related to audio or music production" :P ...

I beg to differ, though: I think it's very much related in a sense that Live is presumably the main tool people are using for music/audio production over here, and editing its GUI is all about customising a central piece of equipment/software you use in your daily production tasks.

(This was originally in the main music production / audio / related subforum, just to let more people know of this nice utility. Now noticed it got moved over here [The Lounge] without explanation.)

(Edit: as of writing this edit, it seems this thread has left The Lounge and landed to Tips & Tricks :P, grand tour.)

The original topic is in the Tips&tricks forum. Seems the right place to me.

Ok. So if I instead find one of the numerous threads on Live colors/theming in the main production subforum and reply linking to the new tool, instead of making a new thread, that might be an okay way to draw more attention to the tool in the production forum? Or will all such threads be moved to the Lounge from now on? :)

Is it really that big of a deal? There's a few people moderating the forums here, and sometimes it just comes down to personal preference on where a mod feels something should be placed to make it easier to find in the future. Personally I think anything having to do directly with Live could be in the Music and Production forum true, but at the same time a skin editor technically really doesn't have anything directly related to music or audio production.

The OP posted this in the Tips & Tricks forum even (I moved it to the lounge), showing yet another way it could be interpreted. Any one of those three places could be valid, so just accept that some of this comes down to personal preferences on organization and focus on the important stuff :)

To make it easier to find? If I was looking for a skin editor for this DAW I doubt I look in the lounge "anything not related to audio or music production". The Lounge has traditionally for stupid talk about anything unrelated to Live, to music, or to music making. Good TV shows, Net Neutrality, Cat farts, that sort of thing. It seems this has changed as its now full of threads about Push, Live 10 and Live 10 skin editors. It's odd.

Does it matter?
You can of course move, warn, ban. Thats fine. Ableton pay the bills and they have empower you the moderators to move the counters of mere players on the board with no real care for the game. The moderators can indulge in whims to move the mere users contributions around. Thats fine. The dealer is empowered to handle the cards. If the dealer makes a mistake and brushes it off, what then of the game's structure. The players are no longer players but mere disconnected bystanders.

There is no community, just words without value for moderators to shuffle on a whim. What does it matter?

It depends how you feel about community, inclusiveness, respect, and how users might perceive certain actions.

But hey, shuffle the deck. One dealer likes it here, the other there, lets move your stuff around because its ours. What does it matter?

No. To be honest, it just felt really weird and random :)

I realize that question sums it up for me, actually, as my feeling was: given the amount of threads in the Music and Audio Production forum about all sorts of meta stuff related to Live, what was such a big deal in this thread that made someone move it?

Anyway, the main thing is... The editor rocks, hah, now that it even has a color picker. Changed some (just some) of the blues back to oranges in the light theme, and it's perfect for my tastes now, ahhhhhh.

Yeah, I reiterate, that sums it up. I've been stopping by over here on and off since 2005, and that's exactly what felt so weird about it :D. I hadn't noticed this change, seldom checking out The Lounge, and I figured that a Live 10 theme editor isn't at all Lounge material. First I thought the thread was just gone, I had to google it to find it here, actually, hahah. But it seems these days The Lounge is also for all kinds of production related stuff I presumed it wasn't for.

The topic isn't in the Lounge but in the tips&tricks. Why does it feel inappropriate?!
We're not moving stuff around just for the sake of doing something. There's so many threads, we're trying to keep the things a bit tied up. We're open to debate our choices, that's actually what is happening here.
There's also a search function...

See here, quoted from this thread we're in right now, so that I won't have to repeat myself too much:

Again, "this" in the line immediately above this one as in this thread we are writing in now :P, not the one in Tips & Tricks. [Edit: at the time of writing this edit, this thread is now ALSO in Tips & Tricks, hah! Quantum teleportation.]

To sum up: it felt weird as it hadn't occurred to me The Lounge is for this kind of stuff these days. If this thread was deleted with a note of "sorry, there are so many threads, we're trying to keep things tidier" (or something to that effect) it would have been much more understandable, as I posted just a reference to someone's post already somewhere else on these forums, after all. This felt only puzzling instead.

No actual harm done, now I know how this stuff works :)

The thread in the Tips & Tricks section is actually about someone asking about theme editing, and Lawrence posted the editor as a reply to that post. The initial post was made over a week ago. I figured, many people have already checked the thread and have no idea someone dropped such a gem in there days after the initial post. So I thought, I'd post a note of it in the subforum that Live users read the most, especially as there has been more discussion on Live 10 themes here and elsewhere recently, and the tool makes editing the Live 10 GUI colors so convenient.

It's really no big deal, as now anyone who wants a Live 10 theme editor is sure to find these relevant threads by googling for it. I was just surprised about the random move and wondering about it out loud, that's all.

when I commented this thread was in the lounge. It is now back in the Tips and Tricks section where the poster posted it.

It's quite an Abbott and Costello routine at this point, isn't it? :D

Once more: this thread was at The Lounge after I first posted it into Music and Audio Production. That was the surprise move. Then it got moved from The Lounge to Tips & Tricks, where it also currently sits as of writing this. It's not "back" in the Tips and Tricks section, as it never left there, was not posted there, and was never there before this point. The other thread, the one where Lawrence posted his editing tool as a reply to a general question on Live 10 theme editing, has been in the Tips & Tricks section this whole time, never visiting The Lounge, unlike this remarkably agile and mobile cousin thread you are visiting right now.
