Disintegration effect

Complete n00b here, but I was wondering if you guys could help me out.

This is more film score related, I guess, but I'm trying to achieve an effect where all tracks kind of stutter and disintegrate at the same time. A good example used in regular electronic music would be the track "Singularity" by Jon Hopkins where he uses this at the end of the track.

Anyone have any hints?
