Dreamy "ooooh" type sounds similar to Flying Lotus

Post by marra » Sun Apr 28, 2019 12:12 am

Hi!

I'm trying to create a dreamy "ooooh" type sound in Ableton similar to those you often hear in the background of Flying Lotus' tracks, e.g.:

1. Flying Lotus - Quarantine (2019): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-08OltIIma0
2. Flying Lotus - Camel (2008): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6SXXx1Fu_4

So far I've looped up an "ooooh" sample in Sampler and added some Echo and Grain Delay to it:

But it's definitely missing something. Any chance anybody here can help me figure out what that is?

The original sample by Marnie Cameron should also probably be replaced. Any suggestions? I'm currently digging through old Singers Unlimited LPs and will keep you guys posted on my findings.

Thanks a bunch!

Here's the full liveset (Ableton 10 - oooh_attempt Project.zip): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QSVW12 ... sp=sharing

I think the secret is in grain delay. Underbelly had a tutorial on using grain delay to get that dreamy sound, might want to check that out.
