Songs manually sliced in simpler - Warping not working.

Post by davezak » Thu Sep 05, 2019 6:43 pm

I am trying to warp the timing of a song to match the projects BPM and cut up songs into samples

Here is my process:

•create new MIDI channel
•drag 'simpler' to top of new channel
•drag full song into simpler
•turn off 'WARP'
•select 'slice' > 'manual'
•listen to full song and slice it up on Push 2 pad in 'note' view
•turn WARP on.

it seems like 20% of the time this works and the rest do not properly warp to match the song tempo.

any ideas please i have been stuck on this for months now!?

the idea is to play back the song vie samples in 'note view' at the project BPM

It is probably warped before you put the clip into Simpler. When it works, it’s just because it was properly, or reasonably close to bpm, warped before you did anything in Simpler. All you’d be doing is changing trigger points while warp is off. Then turning it back on with the already existing warp markers and triggering that at different points.

It’ll sound right if Live guessed the original bpm correctly or if you already warped and saved that clip in the past. It’ll sound wrong if it wasn’t, no matter what you do, it won’t stretch to the appropriate tempo unless you go warp the clip in Clip Properties and then drag it into Simpler. Simpler isn’t ‘changing’ the warping when you turn it off and on, and there is no way to do warping adjustments aside from algorithms using Simpler.

Thank you for taking the time to read and understand my situation.
This adds one more step I wish I didn't need!

• Drag the song into a new Audio Track (.wav)
• Set Start Point on clear down-beat in Clip Properties. "Set 1.1.1 here."
• Fiddle around with warp settings.
• Once happy drag warped audio from Audio track to a new MIDI Track with Simpler applied > drag audio file into Simpler.
• Manually add trigger points to song as desired (every 2 bars for example).
• Turn on drum loops and play song with trigger points.

That's what I like to do I just wish it wasn't such a clunky process! :S
Thank you for unsticking me,
