greasykid1, that's an interesting approach, I would have never thought about it. It wont be as clear on the sound, all depends on the fill played, but I'll definitely try it.
Thank you!
With such unconventional thinking, if you think of any other ways please let me know.

Sorry, just to reiterate, if solo worked apart the inability to automate it, then using mutes set up correctly will give the same effect without having to set up other devices (as I also thought was necessary to begin with)

You are basically muting the playing tracks and unmuting the fill track with one button push.

Unless I am totally missing something here?

invisibledan, yes, just like that. AND the fill clip is even not needed to be mute, it is triggered and stops after 1 play when needed.
Thank you!

Now the question is how to UNmute all the muted clips (tracks) by the end of the fill clip, hopefully without a use of virtual cables (they unreliable in Windows).

The same way you muted them?!!!

If you muted lots of channels individually to play the fill and therefore have lots of individual channels to unmute after the fill which is not easy unless you are an octopus, group all of those channels so you only have to push the one mute button of the group bus.

There is a difference: to mute ALL the tracks except the one with the fill I assign 1 button (with multiple mutes), and the same button starts the fill.
So, I press it, and all the clips Globally Quantized are getting mute and 1 starts playing. Simple.
Now, I am trying to make them all UNmute by the end of the fill automatically, without pressing anything.
I can do it with automation and a virtual cable, but it works not very reliable in Vindows.
So, what else could I do to automate UNmuting of all the previously muted clips at the end of a fill? (Muting the fill after it's played is not necessary, it simply stops playing).

If you have M4L you can use this device which has a key/midi mappable "kill mute" button.

This plugin look interesting, but it is not clear how it works, it says that it will do all the functions on a selected track, how do I pre define which multiple tracks it should work on?
For simplification it could be done on all tracks but a few, but grouping is not useful because 1 by 1 on/off is done to those tracks before the muting.
Please let me know what you think.
