recording with no time signature in free time

Post by CatherineHowe » Mon Feb 08, 2021 11:00 am

Hi there,
does anyone here know if it's possible to record a clip that has no time signature and is in free time ie. no steady beat?
I want to record a violin line over the top of a drone bass, with the violin playing in completely free time with no bars and no fixed tempo.
After a while it will go into a tempo when a tabla joins.
I know there maybe a way but I'm not very up on the jargon and so I may have missed it somewhere.
Thank, Cath

Hi Cath, and welcome! You can turn the metronome off and just record the violin, effectively without a time sig and in free time. Then tweak the position of the track when the tabla comes in. Would that work for you?

Cheers

And soon with L11, you will even be able to let Live follows your free time/no metronome tempo and adapt the actual tempo real-time, like a musician playing with you.
