Live 11 Remote Script

Post by amperor » Fri Feb 26, 2021 1:32 pm

Hi,

I've created a remote script to use my arturia keylab mk2 to control parameters fo Ableton Live devices.

With Live 11 I know you can map 16 macros but in the remote script I only have room for 8 (see below).

Does anyone know a way to map macors 9-16 to the keylab faders?

Thnaks.

[DeviceControls]
# The Encoders will control the device parameters (you can also
# use knobs or sliders). Replace the -1's with the CCs sent by
# the respective controls on your controller. You can also set
# the channel for each controller if it differs from the global
# channel (if you leave the channel of an encoder at -1, Live
# will assume that the encoder uses the global channel).
Encoder1: 74
Encoder2: 71
Encoder3: 76
Encoder4: 77
Encoder5: 93
Encoder6: 18
Encoder7: 19
Encoder8: 16
EncoderChannel1: -1
EncoderChannel2: -1
EncoderChannel3: -1
EncoderChannel4: -1
EncoderChannel5: -1
EncoderChannel6: -1
EncoderChannel7: -1

Your key lab should be able to control the macros without manual mapping. It's called Device mode and there are standard mappings for all the built-in devices as well as the macros.
The main thing you need to do is add it to the MIDI Control Surface list in the preferences. Have a look at arturia.com/faq/keylabessential/keylab-essential-tips-tricks for the detailed settings.
Then go to the Help View in Live and read the section about MIDI Controllers in the lessons. You might need to check the Arturia help on how to enable Device Mode on your keylab.

Hi,

First of all, thanks for helping!

As I understand it Keylab mk2 has three modes: Analog Lab (to control Analog Lab), Daw (in which I can control several parameters like rec, play, stop, etc and use the knobs and faders to control volume and pans) and user mode (which I use with a remote script to control the first 8 knobs in an Ableton device).

What I want to do is to use the faders to control macros 9-16 of a Live device as I already do it with the knobs for macros 1-8).

I can map it manually every session but I would like it to be automatic.

Thanks!

Live stores mappings in 2 places. There are global mappings which are stored in the .als file. The problem with this is the mapping is to a specific rack on a specific track. It doesn't switch as you select another track. Set it up the way you want then save the Live Set as a template. Each time you open the template for a new song, it has those mappings as a starting point

As well, you can set-up mapping for parameters of a plugin and save them as a default for that plugin. This is explained in the Live manual.

I checked the keylab mk2 manual for you and in section 5 it describes it's modes. In 5.4 it describes banks, each bank sends different set cc messages to Live so it's like having 24 knobs which you can access 8 at a time(and 24 faders) . Select one bank and map it to the first 8 macros, then select another bank and map it to macros 9-16.

There are a lot more options in the keylab, and it looks like you can set up 8 banks of faders and 8 banks of knobs, but without having one in front of me to try, I'm not sure exactly how to do that.

If you haven't tried it, DAW mode might give you better integration with Live. It's what I described in my previous answer and gets around the limitations I've described. It automatically maps the knobs and faders to the selected device or rack macros. It's cool, but the documentation is not the greatest.

Looks like an awesome controller. Good luck.

Hi

I am also trying to edit the script so I can use the Keylab 49 MKII with all the 16 macros.
Encoder1: 73
Encoder2: 75
Encoder3: 79
Encoder4: 72
Encoder5: 80
Encoder6: 81
Encoder7: 82
Encoder8: 83
Encoder9: 77
Encoder10: 76
Encoder11: 71
Encoder12: 74
Encoder13: 93
Encoder14: 18
Encoder15: 19
Encoder16: 16
EncoderChanne1: -1
EncoderChanne2: -1
EncoderChanne3: -1
EncoderChanne4: -1
EncoderChanne5: -1
EncoderChanne6: -1
EncoderChanne7: -1
EncoderChanne8: -1
EncoderChanne9: -1
EncoderChanne10: -1
EncoderChanne11: -1
EncoderChanne12: -1
EncoderChanne13: -1
EncoderChanne14: -1
EncoderChanne15: -1
EncoderChanne16: -1
Only works up till encoder 8!
Yes you can have up to 3 banks on "User Mode", but MKII is sending CC from all faders and knobs with bank 1 if you map manually.
My guess is that Ableton needs to update the script, because obvious just putting new lines for the rest of the encoders, it does not work.

Hi,

Yes... I tried to add it manually too...

Strange that Ableton hasn't updated the script for Live 11...

Yeah, Ive been tryna figure the way to blue hand all 16 Macros on my LCxl. There are lots of M4L options but none of them quite hit the mark. 🎯.

This very day I just splashed out £30 quid for the Launchcontrol XXL script from Isotonik. It does the job of instant mapping of all a device’s parameters and works with Live 11 controlling all the macros.

An absolute ⚽️ ache to install and a bit pricey for a script, but I have had zero issues sinceI got it working and it does something nothing else does. So I suppose it’s worth it. ⚖️

+1 for this update. (allowing CC's for all 16 knobs in Ableton 11)

Unfortunately the DAW mode in Arturia KeyLab Essential is not that great due to the knobs and faders controlling volume and panning and not the Selected Device. So you can't use it "plug and play" with an Ableton Device or any other rack, you need to manually map it. Which is disappointing, to say the least, especially when coming from Novation which supported it natively.

I use it exactly as you describe here.

Memory 1 analog lab
Memory 2 DAW basic control (without macros)
User Memory 1 has a remote script with macro control.

I'm also surprised that Ableton didn't update the User Script, but I guess it will happen so soon. To be sure, I will point this out on the Beta forum.

Also sent report to Technical Support.

That was the answer I got from them

" Hello,

Thanks for getting in touch with us, this is Frank. I'm sorry to hear about this problem. I hope you are doing well!

We are aware of this wish and it has not yet been implemented for the User Configuration scripts.
A feature request has been collected and this message from you counts as a +1 vote for it.

I'll keep this on-hold so that if and when an update will make this possible, a notification will automatically let you know.

Let us know if you have more questions.

Best,

Frank
Ableton Support"

Everyone who can, send a message to Ableton for them to implement it in the next update ♥

Does anyone know if all 16 macros are working yet in the scripts? Maybe using a custom user script?

Thinking of upgrading but the 16 macros mapping feature is my main reason to.

Thanks.

I'm not in the studio right now, but it occurred to me, isn't it possible to shift the focus to the other eight macros, like what about tracks, for example?
I also use mapping via user script, and basically it should go toggle. But I'm not sure.

Thanks. Too bad this isn't implemented yet.

Of course you can jump to the next macro rack. But what I'm talking about is using more than 8 macros in one rack, the new Live11 feature.
