Trigger functions by midi remote, which are not triggerable by midi remote (Undo, Launch clip, ...)

Post by joschwenk » Wed May 12, 2021 1:24 pm

Hi,

I searched for an answer to the question:
I can start the currently selected clip by using the arrow keys on my computer keyboard and then pressing "Enter". I would like to have this function on a remote midi note / controller. How is this possible?
While researching, I found that there are a lot of threads with similar questions and no solution, e.g. this one: viewtopic.php?t=228815
Some of the threads are from 2007 (!!!)

So, as it looks it`s only possible with remote scripts or "Midi -> Computer Keyboard" converters. And some said with Max for Live, but I did not find a solution. So, I have the following questions:
  1. Which "Midi -> Computer keyboard" converter should I use in 2021 (Windows in my case)
  2. Is there a starter tutorial for remote scripts? Seems pretty complex. Can somebody post an example script, which just takes a Midi input and executes an API command. Or is it just not that easy?
  3. Does somebody have an idea on how to handle this with Max for Live?
Maybe we can collect knowledge in this thread for "How to trigger Ableton things by midi remote, which are not triggerable by midi remote" :)

Key/midi mappable missing shortcuts (trigger selected clip is one of them).
