Which VST is best for BASS?

Post by djsynchro » Mon Sep 26, 2005 7:45 am

Bass.... the final frontier.

Which VST do YOU think is best for a tight bassline?
I like a punchy attack time, this is quite hard to find.
One oscilator is best (or SYNCable oscillators), don't want chorusing/beating on the bass notes...

Your suggestions are appreciated!

it depends on what kind of music you do.

personaly i love the really deep, make-the-sub-woofers-act-more-like-fans-than-speakers type bass. for that i use lots of compression, eq'ing and Spectrasonics' Trilogy.

Whatever the bass sound is the way it is compressed can add a ton of character. I have been using EAS Neodynium lately and it really can improve how my bass lines cut through.

I use Forte and mix together B4, Pro53, FM7, SubSynth and others.

Gives me solid, crunchy, harmonic, deepth, width, density, huge.

what vst for bass

Post by djsynchro » Tue Sep 27, 2005 8:20 am

Thanks guys.... and once again it goes to show how personal everything is... I know a lot of those synths and don't think any of them are what I look for (sigh).

AdamJay, Operator sounds interesting... didn't like the included bass patches so much but I think it is a killer synth, will have to buy.... :-)

thnks again, if anyone wants to give their opinion... keep the suggestions coming, appreciated!

Hmm, I'll stray slightly off topic and say "a cheap active bass guitar", assuming you can play the thing. It just makes such a lovely creamy sound, especially with a little chorus & compression if you're going for the bass guitar sound. Or plug it through a filter or the saturator (or grain delay, or...) for some wilder strangeness. I find it easier, being a bass player by nature, to do funky stuff with an actual bass :)

That aside, if I'm in a hurry I do enjoy Hardcore Bass for electric bass guitar sounds, and Trilogy for its double bass. What can I say, I'm a bass junkie :P
