Post by marco » Wed Apr 30, 2003 12:07 pm

we are playing with 2 laptops and 2x live, the synchron-functions works but the "slave"-laptop changes the bpm all the time! (original bpm=120 bpm, slave=117-124 bpm) can anybody help me please???

Sync

Marco,

Check your version - if you haven't got 2.0.3 go and get it. Some problems with sync in previous versions.

changing tempo

Post by siwat909 » Mon Sep 15, 2003 8:58 am

here u go,
the 'moving tempo' you are experiencing is very large so some problem there.
BUT you will see some movement in tempo (plus or minus approx0.4bpm @130bpm) as the resolution of midi time code self corrects itself for non-rational numbers (x.333333 recurring etc) by rounding up or down to the nearest decimal point.
this has been a problem/fact for midi synch since its implementation, some studio engineers have to spend days ands weeks resolving these problems using complex midi filters and external sync boxes...
the drift will not be noticable to 99.9% of people,

hi,

i also had big problems - but haven't tried with 2.12

i solved the problem by using an external sequencer (alesisi mmt8) and a midi splitter.

the sequencer sends the midi clock and the splitter distributes the clock to the 2 laptops.

seems to me the most stable approach.

We did a few live act jamming using this method:

no synchro ;-)

We had the same tempo on both laptop, sometimes the synchro gets off but it's easy to get it back on last time we did that way during two hours and one of us only had to stop and sart 2 or 3 times, i even did this with a friend using reason and me on live.

it's a lot of fun this way cause each of us can stop his sequencer whenever he wants to!!!
