Ok ive read great tutorials in CM about doing this in Cubase sx,
but is it possible in Live at all ??
i want to create some groove templates for drums and if possible extract and create some from existing Audio loops but apply these groove to my own programmed beats.
im just trying to get some shuffle and swing into my hi hats !!
cheers joe

Fire your loops through Recycle and get the MIDI groove file.
That always works for me.

oh cool, then just use the midi files in Live with my own drum sets,
so you cant create swing grooves to apply to midi in live then ?
thanks joe

so you cant nudge hi hats or anything to create swing ?
as quantise only affects the end of start of a sample, doesnt seem to move the drums,

Hello I am Tran from Vietnam
You can apply your own swing settings with that little box next to the tempo. I would not go far as to say it is MPC cool but it is good, yes? Or if you have a Phatmatik sampler you can extract the midi, drag and drop I believe from a loop, I am using it in Vietnam at the moment. Thank you.

just program the notes you want, select them all and use the quantize function of the menue. then not only start and end but the whole note will be moved.

To get normal swingtime in Live just select notes you want to add swing to, then in quantize dialog use 16th triplets and 'end' of, then set the percentage to something like 10% and you have swingtime quantization.

You cannot apply custom groove templates in Live (yet). All you can do is use their "swing" function.
It's like giving a painter only one colour to work with in my opinion.
A lot of people have been begging since version 2 for this feature. This question was addressed on this recent thread, posted the 9th of May 2006.

big shame, sorry i did search for this topic, sometimes searching forums dont even bring up the results you searched for at all
shame you can import templates, would help alot of people out
i prefer to programme beats for house music rather than use loops
so i have more control but i need some swing in my hats to make them shuffle and roll, 16th etc way too tight, no swing
thanks joe

Yeah, it is a big shame. Keep an eye out for version six, I've been the biggest whiner about this feature on the boards for a long while.
I just find that I get bored of the same 1/16 swing or 1/8 swing all the time. Yawn. Sure, you COULD program your beats that way, but when you're doing really fast, live and improvised note placement during a show you can't get right in there and delay or advance certain notes by a bit with the quantize off - it's just a mess.
Groove templates would really help out a lot!
