Suggestions for a better Click.

Load in an audio file of a click into a clip slot. You can have an assortment of clicks to chose from.

Just use up a track for your click - a "Click Track."

If you've got a drum machine or such like, just record some stick or cowbell (or whatever you like) sounds into live for later use and it'll timestrech them to whatever tempo you're working at.

I often used to do this in Pro Tools, which had a particularly cumbersome click in OS9.

It's a pretty foolproof way of doing it, and won't ever let you down.

It's good to use more than just 4 beats for a click. Try 1/4s = cowbell 1/8s = tambourine 1/16s = hi hat. Much easier to play along with and stay in time than just gunk gunk gunk gunk.

A little time spent setting up good clicks goes a long way in the long run. Try little conga grooves etc. Or buy a book on latin percussion and get programming. (you can probably get a lot of these grooves on the web).

Or get a sample CD with Latin percussion wavs. Try one of the Miles Bould sample CDs. Last time I looked they were going for about £25. Loads of cool latin grooves that Live'll instantly timestretch for you. Spend a bit of time warping them real tight and save the relevant asd files. Then you'll be set up for life.

No more gunk gunk gunk gunk. aaargh!
