****edit Sept 08

updated the 4 channel setup for live 7, there is looping now!
i also made a mic strip that can be used with any of the templates...

****edit July 08

the biggest, baddest, and most epic template is finally done. it is a live PA template that can also be used to DJ. basically it works like this:

Triceratopz - 8 Channel Mouseless Live PA/DJ Template

there are two, four channel live PA setups (beats, bass, melody, leads/vocals/one shots) and then you can DJ between the live PA setups. this way you are not constrained to creating your entire PA in a linear way. you make 4 channels worth of clip packs to perform each song, then save them to the browser and bring them into the rig on the fly.

features include:

-full mouseless control and browser access
-2 identical 4 channel live PA setups, left and right.
-2 outputs to the DJ mixer or self contained mixing, whichever you prefer
-new, improved multi fx racks for every channel (dry, loop/grind, dirt, LFO gate, + new 'melt' effect)
-hi/lo pass filters for every channel
-live mic channel
-delay sends, including for the live mic
-control of arrangement from within the PA setups, and when mixing the two sides
-beat repeat punch-ins for every channel
-SIMPLE and flexible control setup
-all this in only 3 pages on the trigger finger! (p1 mixing, p2 + 3 performance l + r)

***edit April 08

i just made a two output mixing template that is engineered for techno and house and such. it's a simplified version of the 4 output template below, and also has a few new things like a tape stop, clickless channel mutes, etc...

***edit, Jan 08

wuha!

there is now a brand new template available, designed more for mixing than juggling and hacking things to bits.

4 Output Mixing Template

features:

-4 stereo outputs to the dj mixer
-new multi fx DJ channel racks (loop/grind, redux, delay, lfo gate, flange)
-1 juggle channel as a submix for channel 4
-mouseless navigation/browser access
-dummy clips on automation channels
-intuitive clip slot mapping for making arrangement changes on the fly
-tempo scene data entry via MIDI
-documentation which clearly explains everything (english only)
-high/low filters for every channel
-3 dedicated cue point pads per channel
-dedicated beat repeat pads for every channel
-love!

Classic Mouseless Template (live 5 compatible)

phew!

after months of programming and extensive on-stage testing my new mouseless DJ/Juggle template is now ready for sale.

all you need is ableton, a computer, and a midi controller, preferably a trigger finger.

features include:

:idea::idea::idea::idea::idea:

-full MIDI Browser access and navigation with midiStroke
-3 kinds of MIDI Beat Juggling with 96 juggle slots
-macro mapped filters + custom EQ4s (usable from Live 5 via controlAid)
-supatrigga crossfade
-macro mapped record stop effect button.
-dummy clips on automation channels
-4 channels of DJ goodness
-intuitive clip slot mapping for making arrangement changes on the fly
-tempo scene data entry via MIDI
-documentation which clearly explains everything (english only)
-free samples programmed onto hard wired juggle slots
-free warped, diced + juggled mp3 of my record Ice-9 feat Tasc

this interface allows you to put the laptop on the ground or behind the decks like a record box, and you can even close your eyes while you are playing!

thanks to Charlie Roberts aka BigBadOtis for making controlAid and midiStroke avaiable to us for free. without him this template would not be possible.

thanks also to everyone who provided input, support, and ideas for this template. I could never have done it alone.

you guys kick ass. i love you immensely and will continue to answer questions and post tips on this board as payback. charlie - you are welcome to a free template.

peace!

Im not a dj so I dont really know what your talking about but if your talking about a mouse-less free method of using live in stage then your doing a great thing and I wish you great fortunes from your invention. I have seen a number of performers using live on stage and the thing that lets them down every time is looking at the screen and using the mouse. I can see the concentration on every one of their faces as they operate the mouse and look at the screen. It lets them down every time and the audiences notice it on a subconcious level.

That's awesome man!!

I knw this is a dick move, and probably the last thing you want to hear after putting all that work in....

but you should really donate a % of the earnings to thirdparty plugin developers you use like Bome. :)

just one question (might be a dumb one),

how do you know what clips you are loading up, if your not looking at the screen?

by The Phat Conductor
you look when you're getting the als full of clips out, but once it's in the appropriate spot you don't have to look again until the next tune ;)
