time signatures?

Post by thatguy » Thu Nov 30, 2006 9:33 pm

Does anyone know of a way to change time signatures in the middle of a set without effecting the rest of the set, i.e. I have a 4/4 groove but I want to stick in a 1 measure break in 7/8 while keeping the rest of the tune in 4 and synched to the metronome. thanks for any help you can provide.

You can set time signatures on a per clip basis.

ps. Welcome by the way!

But the time signature in the clip is for reference only, and does not effect playback.

I've been wondering this also.

I think it wasn't possible in Live 5 or earlier, not sure about 6 (can't find anything in the manual).

Surely not everyone is making 4 to the floor dance tunes?

Me to... It seems some times that live is built for 4 on the floor composing only.

is there a way to disable all the time control stuff? i am running 5.0.1 ithink. i dont like how new clips are automatically warped. i usually like to record jams with out putting in the correct bpm and time signature. then when i sit down to add midi stuff i cant get it in time with midi accurately. could somebody help out with a link to info on timing LIVE in general? i am still pretty new to the software. thanks

When in Live hit Apple + , to bring up the Preferences.

There's a tab on the left called 'Record, Warp, Launch' and you'll find various options in here to auto-warp or not, as well as other default thing you'd like to happen.

not possible as yet in Live. time sig automation would be nice but an easy work around is: change the main time sig to 1/1 or 1/4 and then you are free to do whatever sig changes you like. You may have to count in your head to keep track of where you are.

thanks for the suggestion. I would really like to see this feature added in the future! setting the time sig to 1/4 or so would work, but would be a real bummer for arranging, having to manually count bars...

I was actually very surprised to go digging in to Live and find that you CAN'T do this. Seems like a no brainer to have it be just another automation view in the "Master" track.

Definitely should be in there for Live 7. Please. :)

I can't wait until 7. that's way too long for music software to not support the majority of music ever written
