Im having an automation headache

Post by Rosko » Sat Mar 24, 2007 7:32 pm

I've mapped a controller to sample start in simpler with the midi map & i want to record the automation in session view, but clicking on overdub & nothing is recording..the cc is mapped to 107.

ok, how to break it to you gently.

live doesn't record mapped controls in session.

yes, you read that right.
I am the one man campaign for recording ccs in session.
The only workaround is either: use a virtual midi port such as IAC or LoopBE(PC)
alternative B: use a VST, the internal midi learn on some VSTS does record in session.

yes, it's fucking stupid I know.

one of many threads on the subject

Doh! :x :x :x
I normally use midi learn but there is non for sampler that i know of.
This seems really daft not to have, what is the point of being able to map to midi in the first place.....are you sure you can't do it?

Another thing that frustrated me last week was that i couldn't consoladate clips
in session view, i don't want to have to go back & forth all the time i only ever use arrange for the final arrangement & it seems daft to me.

yes, I'm sure.
It relates to some veru tedious absolute / relative internal assignments which I won't bore you with. Essentially Arrangement holds absolute values against which the envelopes in session are deemed to be relative. For that reason we cant record session automation. apparently.

But thats recording the audio output rather than midi?
The only way to do it is go into arrange...hhmm i may as well be using cubase.

Must say was playing about with fruity loops the other day & was well impressed
with the automation its miles better than lives imo.

So we are gonna have this very important feature in 7 right??? Better check the wishlist forum.
