Triggering loops in Live via MIDI?
Triggering loops in Live via MIDI?
Hi,
I'm a VERY new user of Live... I have Live 2.1, the Digidesign Edition.
What I'd like to do is set up a V-drum pad(s) and trigger loops in Live
via MIDI. I'm still trying to sort through all the "in's and out's" of Live,
but I'm thinking that the only way to do this will be by using ReWire and
some other host program. Can anyone tell me how to accomplish this?
Thanks!
Steve

Click once on the MIDI button within Live's main clip arranger window. This turns on the MIDI-learn feature.
Then click once on the clip (loop sample) you want to trigger.
Then hit your drum pad to assign or "map" the MIDI event from the drum pad to the clip trigger.
Click once on the MIDI button in Live to turn off the MIDI-learn feature.
Each time you hit the drum pad, this will trigger the clip.
You can assign the trigger to any one of several behaviors: one-shot, retrigger or switch-like to turn on/off. The manual will help at this point but it is pretty straightforward once you play around with it.

Hi Dragonfly,
what Alex R. said is totally right but it will not work with Live Digidesign Edition because this version does not support MIDI.
Please see also this thread about the limitations of Live Digidesign Edition compared to the full version of Live.

that's obvious: you cannot trigger the clips from the arrange view (they are triggered by the timelin in a way) with a mouse. that's what it is called arranger view for: it's all about playing back or editing an arrangement.
you can drag and drop clips from the browser or the session view and trigger clips assigned to a midi controller (which is done in the session view) if your version sports midi remote though.
but the realtime events are in the session view... (ok, tweaking can be done in the av in realtime)
