Stabs Technique
Stabs Technique
Does anyone knows the technique used to create the stabs in this wicked track :
http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF1256102-02-01-02.mp3
I mean just after the break, sounds like delays, but there is a nice groovy feeling that I've been trying to reproduce unsuccessfully ...
Thanks in advance for any idea...
PS: The track is Itamar Sagi's Dream theater.

Dude, this is nuts - what is this music? The snippet you posted was awesome.
As for the stabs - during the break I'd reckon it's a delay set to triplets - but it sounds like there's also some 8th note repeats going on underneath. Also sometimes its 8th note triplets, sometimes quarter-notes - time to use the envelope automation!
As for once the beat comes in, I think the hits are are 3 8th notes or 3 16th notes in duration or something similar - it's syncopated and doesn't fit into the "multiples of 2" grid of a nice four-on-the-floor house beat. Probably the easiest way to do this is to shorten your midi clip or whatever to a length that's NOT 2 or 4 or 8 or etc...Hope that makes sense!

done using a ping pong delay. i.e L and R delay times are different and panned hard L and R respectively.
could get simiar effect with L as 1/8, R as 3/16 (1/16 delay with 3x factor)
mix of input and output signal (wet/dry mix) is roughly the same as original stabs kinda blend in.
timing of original stabs is in a 3/16 interval or similar variation as far as can workout...
hope that's some help

just knocked this up using live 5.2 preset sounds

i think it's sort of there, timing-wise. like everyone said, its in 3's, but still on a 16 grid, no need for different time sigs for the clip. i just added 20% quantize at 16/16t for a light push back on certain stabs.
