Keys in Ableton

Post by JDemonie » Sun Sep 30, 2007 12:10 pm

Hi,

I know I sound like an absolute beginner with Live with this question,
but I'm not very familiar with this part of the program.

I tried to put keys in a song, but I only find these presets full of crazy effects I don't want. Isn't is possible to get a 'normal' piano or something?

Or maybe a standard sound to put effects on?

Thanks

There is no standard piano sound hat comes with live. There are some free piano-plugins that you can use. google for the mda-piano for example. On mac you also have the "DSL-music device" that you can find in the AU-plugins.
Those are not really very well sounding, but usable at least for writing/scoring-purposes .
Ableton offers as additional buy the EIC, a sampleset with well-recorded sampled instruments, among them a piano, but from what I have heard they are pretty heavy on cpu and ram.

Yellow Tools just realeased a freeware version of their sampler. It comes with a 2 GB (!) free sound library that probably should cover most of your orchestral needs.
