Live + Guitar, will this work:

Post by skateboarder873 » Fri Nov 30, 2007 4:11 am

I'm thinking about getting an electric guitar and use it with live to record.

I am wondering though, first, i'll need a pre-amp, yes?

Second, can i add effects to the guitar, like pedals would do? or do i actually need the pedals and have them all "linked'' to the guitar, and then into the pre-amp?

I use the Motu 828 and plug the guitar straight into the front and then have my effects running as Guitar Rig in that channel.....

Awesome!

Cheers

The Motu 828 has a pre-amp

check your soundcard... you will need to boost the guitar to get it up to line level.... so a cheap soundcard may give you less-than-adequate results.

I process my guitar using Live's effects all the time.
I also rig up chains of real stomp pedals before recording, too. You can do both.

I go through a GT-8 into SPDIF for guitar recording. I can then use the GT-8 in bypass mode as a pre-amp, and use GuitarRig, or the GT-8's effects, or both at once.
