can you use akaimpd32 pads for momentary effect switches?

Post by audiovoid » Tue Jul 01, 2008 1:43 am

Hello All,
I Just bought an mpd32 midi controller and wanted to know how (and if even possible) to edit the pads from sending out note data to sending out control data (at least I think this is what i need)
In ableton Live I want to be able to assign a pad to the on/off switch of an effect but only have the effect be activated for as long as the pad is held down.
Ie: press and hold pad turns on a delay effect. Release the pad and the delay effect turns off.
I am able to achieve this with the s1-s8 buttons by editing them and changing them to momentary (mom) mode but am note able to figure out how to do this with the pads as they're allready in momentary (mty) mode but send out note values instead of control values like the s-buttons do.
Is there a way to do what Im asking with the pads?
Is there a way to edit the pads and change them from sending out note values and instead send out control values maybe?
Thanks in advance,
Sincerely
Linds

This can definitely be done. You'll need to read the manual and find out how to edit each pad...

You'll want to change the pad to a note on/note off, and have it send the same midi message for both values.

MPK momentary on/ off switch fpr pads

Post by dorsch » Tue Jul 01, 2008 1:34 pm

I have exactly the same problem like audiovoid...

and i did not find the answer in the manual.
With the Kork PK its easy, couse the pads can send CC data.

But the MPK Pads don´t do that.
Please can anyone tell where the note on/ off with the same midi data
function is to be found - like patch advised.

Im beginning to wonder if there's actually some type of midi setting in ableton that Im missing?
It seems that I've exhausted all of the hardwares editing possibilities.

edt:
This is the email response that I just received from akai support:

"Unfortunately the pads are not able to send out this type of controller
data, just note data."

...Hmmm. So I wonder if there's another workaround?
I've been told that it IS possible to do what Im asking but I'm starting to question it now. If any body has any extra info on this matter please post.
Thanks again,
Linds
