Why can't i look anything smaller that a beat in arrange??

Post by 8bit » Mon Sep 15, 2008 9:20 am

Hello,

Why can't i loop anything smaller that a beat in the arrange window, I would like to be able to loop right down to a 64th to see what it sounds like before chopping it around.

Any tips?

Ta

By "beat" do you mean a whole note count? 1/4 grid resolution in 4/4 time? if so, you are right. it is not possible to loop anything smaller than a whole note in the Arrangement view but you can get a loop down to 1/16th in Session Clip Loops. It may also be possible to create an even smaller loop in Ableton's Simpler or Sampler. in fact, i know it is possible because some sounds are designed by looping a very small section of a waveform. You may try your "loop" in one of those two instruments before you add your "choppings" to your arrangement. Also explore Ableton's Beat Repeater audio effect, as this allows for repeated beats at 1/256th of a whole note in 4/4 time. Also Arpeggiator MIDI effect allows for 1/128th resolution in "beat" repitition.
