It's where the river splits up into lots of little deltas and they've built houses on the little islands. Apparently it's where some of DDR officials used to have their weekend Datscha, back in the day...

It was all very surreal...

i dont understand why you are so angry about people riding fixed, im not upset with you riding geared, i firmly believe what ever gets a person on a bike is great, i enjoy riding fixed more than geared, or singlespeed

I would never say that to someone I would only hope to encourage them to go for it. it was the whole 'extra stamina' thing. there's nothing about a fixie that's good for a long ride. sorry, that's the kinds of things I hear from hipsters, this Zen state of riding a fixie.

I found a similar spot in SF, on Mission Creek, just upstream from the baseball stadium. not nearly as scenic but a random find. soon they'll be surrounded by multi-story condos.

that's a great way to go. I did that and now I'm doing something I never thought I'd do, buy a road bike. then I'll want to up the components on my commuter to be a better mountain bike. ultimately it leads to a whole quiver of bikes for every occasion. and we thought Live updates were expensive.

I am riding a junkyard single gear not fixed bike. everything else gets stolen in this city. I got three mountainbikes stolen in three years. Two of them were decent. The last one was shit, and I had it locked on the street for a year. Then I got the single gear bike, took off the lock from the old mountainbike, went around the corner and in five minutes the old mountain bike was stolen!

Now that the beig heat is over I have to get a good bike for doing some rides. Thank you all that have posted here, it made me hungry for a god bike and some beautiful rides through those hills behind town. I probably won't get a fixie, though.

i forgot what i wanted to say earlier

1 town away is new college of florida, and they have a student run bike shop near the dorms, they are non profit, the student volunteer there, and its great because its like bike maintenance class

they have all the tools that you need to use in the shop without having to spend the outrageous money on bike tools (how many uses are you going to get out of a crown race puller for 100+ dollars) anyway

and the people who volunteer there teach you how to fix your own bike,

they also used to have local bands play free shows there every month which was always cool, that got stopped by the school though because too many people were coming on to campus at night

I've had this one for a while, and it is a great ride, very predictable on the trails, good nimble feel, and just a lot of fun to ride. I am eventually going to upgrade to a bike with disc brakes, and maybe a little more travel, but those things aren't critical right now as I just don't have enough time to ride regularly. If anyone ever comes down to the eastern TN or western NC areas, shoot me a PM and I will definitely be down to meet up to ride. There are some great places to ride in this area. Tsali is a short drive away from Chattanooga, and is always a BLAST!!!

I don't really get the whole fixed-gear thing, but I *do* want a single speed 29'er at some point.

I did a 3 day ride a couple of weeks ago in the lake district, UK. It's called the coast to coast (C2C) from Workington to Tynemouth, Newcastle. Did it on a Felt hard tail mountain bike. There's some killer climbs in the middle of the trip, had a great time. I'm also always cycling around London.
