Just watched The Wrestler a few nights ago....excellent movie! Not really as fan of pro wrestling myself, but this movie is about so much more than that. Still thinking of it days and days later...

Watched a couple of movies this week on Netflix Instant by a German/Turkish director named Fatih Akin,
The Edge of Heaven and Head On.
Amazing films, pretty intense. So much life in these movies.

Re: OT: Good Film
Off the top of my head:
Edward Scissorhands-Really worth revisiting. The Elfman score, young Tim Burton, awesome performance by Johnny Depp. Great humor. Almost flawless.
Batman and Batman Returns-While we're talking old school Burton I think it's worthwhile to say that these are both superior Batman movies. Not as flashy as Nolans but a lot deeper and more enjoyable. Waaaay better music too.
City of God-Sure it's been mentioned. Just adding a +1.
Punch Drunk Love-Probably my favorite PTA movie. Excellent compromise for a romantic comedy date movie (as is Amelie).
Rocky IV-Rocky ends the Cold War via boxing. Awesome. Vince DiCola's work on the soundtrack is nothing short of brilliant.
City of Lost Children, Delicatessen, Amelie, A Very Long Engagement, etc. Jean Pierre Jeunet is a master.

Re: OT: Good Film
Quite possibly my favorite movie of all time. Don't know why but its just got soul. Kinsky is so great in it. Read about the "making of" sometime - its quite a story.Nr. 1 on my list to watch is Fitzcarraldo.
The violence Haneke does is insane - there's a moment in Cache that just shook me up - if you've seen it I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. I'm actually not a big fan but it is interesting.
I really liked "The Lives of Others" for just a deep good story.
Check out the films of Hal Hartley, particularly Amateur, Flirt and Henry Fool (skip the recent ones). He has a great way of being highly critical of and warmly appreciative of American culture - which I can totally relate to.
MacBook Pro; Live 8 Suite, Reaktor; '77 Fender Jazz Bass; Apogee One;

is that sarcastic? I've never seen the movie, could be great, but 4 hours of Kevin Costner could also go the other way.Tarekith wrote:Dances With Wolves. The 4 hour directors cut is especially moving.
