will iTunes let you play some files that are mp3s and some files that are wavs or does it convert everything in one playlist to one format so that you may only
play one format at a time?

By default it coverts each track and it puts it in a library but you can switch this off

i don't have an ipod, nor am i a pro-apple guy, but i by now use solely itunes for my music. it's great at handling all my needs (from legally buying music, big choice of artists, to great tagging, sorting, searching).

Replacing the iPod with a Blackberry (I know, not an idea mp3 player, but trying to cut down on number of devices to carry around) and I have no idea what I'm replacing iTunes with.

I use it when I want to make absolutely sure that sharing or moving music should be a pain in the ass.

Otherwise, I use something that lets me.

Interesting, I have never had a problem with using itunes to manage my music, podcasts and transfer stuff. Also love the way I can share librarys with any other machines on the network.
