I was just trying to emphasize.. that a player that 'just works' is any player that 'just works' which are all the media players...
and you claim itunes doesn't 'just work'. which is wrong.
they all 'just work'...but some 'just work' better than others ...
jeez.. you guys are sensitive...
...'genius database' .. pff .. wave of the future eh ?(this is one feature I would never miss)
obvious i want to bash => i can't even consider it something cool, even if it might be - statement :)
..playlist support...you've got to be kidding..
they did it in days where others didn't have that, really..
..btw.. you can control most players with ANY cell-phone.. ( ever since phones have 'bluetooth')
yes.
search ?...built into any os by default...
yes (but still, an app can have a specialised, tailored down database with additional info => better search possible. or usage of the search for auto-playlists etc)
you should check winamps media library..
i'll never touch winamp again till they create an ui that is actually acceptable to use. their library? looks like a mini-version of the itunes library, in black.
funny enough that aside from being more handy at managing/searching...
it's way better for the ipod than itunes..
?
...and don't forget..
on the new Ipad.. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SWITCH BACKGROUNDS !!!!
(but not load any apps not ok'd by Apple... )
i always laugh about ipods and other apple devices. but itunes i won't, as it delivers stuff other apps don't deliver in the same form.

the music store IS awesome in the way it's integrated. you can't really beat that.

I use WMP constantly. It starts up and starts playing immediately, and it has more functionality that I actually use than iTunes, including folder watch. :)

it does have folder watch.. "in a special folder" (pronounce like "laser" in austin powers).

true that, folderwatch is nice..

itunes ... love it on my PC ...

-no internet connection
-no ipod
-store switched off
-genius switched off
-'let itunes manage my folders' switched off

COVERFLOW DEFINITELY SWITCHED ON ...

what is there not to love?

Got my entire collection of music that I have been collecting nigh on 20 years in there with a nice bit of album art, and self created tags for each piece ... itunes works much better for me that anything else I have tried for managing such a massive collection.

I guess if I had multiple formats, and badly tagged items, I would hate it, but I don't. More or less everything in there is a 320k MP3 that I recoded from Vinyl and tagged myself, and it all 'just works' perfectly for my needs.

iTunes can watch folders?? I know about the script for windows that does this, but my Mac-having iTunes-using friend has been longing for a folder watch option for Mac iTunes.

it can watch a "special folder". the stylish apple solution to the problem :)

in german installations, there's the

iTunes Media

which contains

Automatisch zu iTunes hinzufügen (Automatically add to iTunes)
and
Music

was just a troll in the fire. I have notjing to say about wmp, neither about itunes (that I use on my macs, with my old ipod and terrible long loading times since updates from 7 to 8 and 9)

wait, no fire??? well I thought people were having kinda fight style with iTunes pros and cons,

I may have missed the sarcasm in this thread  .

Yes, it is indeed possible that much of my rant is inaccurate, but not so much as of version 7 (the one that came with my player)- it definitely would not install without phoning home, so I hated it before I even used it. Everything beyond that just fueled the fire. I'm using Rockbox now though, so my knowledge of any improvements they may have implemented is not up to date. I like being able to just drag and drop folders, and creating my own organizational paradigm. I have no use for tagging or other silly player features - I'll handle all that, just give me play, stop, volume, y'know - the basics. The hardware seems to work well - I'll give it that, and the battery life is good, so my iTunes free iPod experience is quite enjoyable.

foobar2000 - it really is the bollocks.

Simple to start using and totally user configurable, in every way possible, yet only as big as you need it to be.

death to iTunes.
