Sometimes I open iTunes and just stare at it because it reminds me of the genius of Steve Jobs.

If you dont let Itunes manage your library, you can have any of the format it supports in a single playlist. No workarounds needed.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't automatically convert anything. If you have it manage your library it will make a copy of whatever you drag into iTunes and place it in your iTunes library folder but it leaves the format as is.

When I bounce a track from Live I just have it save it to the desktop, drag that to iTunes which makes a copy in my iTunes library and then I trash the desktop copy. It has never converted that track to a different format.

so the only apple product that i have ever owned is an ipod

its crap
well its better than some phones but..
not an interchangeable battery
cannot change out memory
if you want to transfer pictures to your computer you must sync your whole phone
you can only open one program at a time
i had to hack the software to customize some very basic features

I cant believe im again in the perverse position of defending apple products.

cannot change out memory - not many phones that do that

must sync whole phone to download pictures - no. you can set it to just sync only whatever category you want.

one program at a time - not true. i play songs and browse the web all the time. you cant run some programs together.

had to hack it to customise features - i dont think hacking means what you think it means.

Apple make appliances, not customisable devices like PCs. I dont get why someone would buy an Apple then complain about the lack of customisation, thats their entire strength.

Really? I have a weird stomach reaction to apples off the tree. Apple sauce or apple pie, no problem. But biting into an apple makes me feel like I want to throw up. I don't get it and never bothered to research it.
it makes my throat to swell, making it impossible to breathe. both real apples and .. apple.. :) (no, seriously, the first ones do.. :))

indeed... a lesson learned...
but I think 'less is more' approach (as far as computing goes)...
might be good for certain people while not so much for others..

iTunes is probably my least favorite thing about owning Apple computers. When I accidentally double click on a file while I'm working and iTunes automatically launches, it profoundly pisses me off. Every. Single. Time.

When I accidently double click on a Live set it fires up Live. Maybe I wanted it to open in notepad. Or worse yet, I double click on a set I made in 7 and it opens in 8 and turns it into an unstable mess once I save it again.

Um, just change the default application that file formats open with. Some of the issues on here are really comical and nothing to do with evil Apple.

If you are aware of a bridge application that knows what application to open just by using the power of your mind or can somehow determine an accidental click then please post a link.

you are not serious? since when do you use computers and i mean ANY computer?

this has so NOTHING to do with iTunes or Apple or whatever, this is what ALL computers do, they associate files to programs and you can choose that.
and yes they always have a default, all of them!

seriously WTF?

Well that's kinda silly, but I kinda know what you mean. The thing that used to really annoy me about itunes was that if I accidentally double clicked an audio file it would open itunes (ok, not a problem) but it would take a really really long time for itunes to fully open and fully close. So I switched to WMP which opens and closes instantly. Now, however, itunes opens and closes much faster, possibly because I have a much faster computer....WMP is still my default audio app though.

Another option is to set quicktime to the default application for all your media.

why do you do that?

I still don't get what's the point of having itunes making its own library?

when I export a wav track from live on the desktop, I drag it in my monstre jumo tracks itunes playlist, then drag the desktop wav into my own music folder (itunes ALLWAYS REMEMBER THE PATH, wherever you could re-place the file!!!)

I organise my own music folder myself (pc times habit), and this avoids to have multiple copies of the same files...?

don't misunderstand me, I don't criticize itunes, just that I don't get the library mentality...

I allways disable the import and library options
