Yes, interesting stuff. I've seen those before. Looooooong way to go though before it's ready. Not to mention that all that needs to be programmed by hand, lol. If there's a Flash-like GUI interface where you can easily build shapes and animate them, I haven't seen it. Until that kind of thing happens....

Well, Dreamweaver has had javascript timeline animation for a while now without needing to code by hand, through Behaviors:

And the next update to Dreamweaver will include Canvas support.

Anyway, I'm talking about the use of the Flash player plugin, and not so much about the development tool which I'm sure many people will continue to use for animation and creating apps for iphone/ipad. But as a web output delivery format, its days are numbered. Here's another interesting post about the death of the Flash plugin:

The examples you are illustrating are fairly well known, but horrifying. Like the early beta days of Macromedia Director. Horrifying. lol.

Well, we can keep going round and round but I still say that the .swf file is here to stay for at least another 5 solid years. If I'm proved wrong, I'm proved wrong.

But the world of web development is replete with examples of High Drama and Outrageous Predictions; practically none of which has come true. I mean, do you realize how many times that the DEATH OF JAVASCRIPT was predicted or announced!!? Fuck me, lol.




What a lot of this gets down to, honestly, is a handful of developers/programmers who have always had a serious Hate On for Flash. Plain and simple. Most of the articles I've read in the last 2 months are written by little more than shills for HTML 5.

That's a video where Concepcion agonizes through about a 100 moves in order to create a popup gallery that would take about 1/10th the time to do in Flash, lol.

Programmers see this shit and say "SEE! SEE! YOU CAN DO A COOL GALLERY IN HTML WITH SLIDE-IN IMAGES AS EASY AS YOU CAN IN FLASH! MLAH! MLAH!" When, of course, in reality it takes longer and the results are lame by comparison.

I can only go by my use of the iPhone and while that error icon that comes up on every site where there's flash is kind of annoying, I never really take the iPhone seriously as a tool to surf the net. Also if it is video related I just convinced myself it really isn't all that important to view on such a small screen. Macs aren't exactly known as gaming computers so I don't really play any flash based web games either, nothing for me to miss there. I haven't looked in years.

I know nothing about this issue, but you would think that it will get sorted at some point... surely Apple can't expect every one in the world with a website to redesign it for the iPad/Phone - I seem to remember people doing specific WAP sites about 10 years ago... that died pretty quickly

Just because it's not supported now doesn't mean it will stay that way - maybe they're just trying their luck

but then saying all that, if the iPhone and iPad became as omnipresent as the iPod did then I could imagine people having to do Apple friendly sites

I've never tried accessing beatport on the iPhone, would seem silly. I've never bought anything on the iPhone from the iTunes store either and obviously that would work. This may be an age thing because I do love new technology but I never really have that "I need it now!" feeling.

I don't even have a separate charger for my iPhone except in my car. So when I'm charging it at home it's connected and charging off my computer. So at least every other day it's updating and syncing that way. But I know lots of people who hardly ever plug it into the computer, charge it directly off the wall, and do all their purchasing directly from the phone. I've known people who didn't realize how much easier it is to browse and find apps on iTunes because they were doing it all from the phone. They didn't even realize there was an app section on iTunes. Weirdos.
