http://www.blacklooks.org/2010/05/niger ... rspective/

i'm getting more and more disgusted every day..
tonight i was rehearsing for a show and thinking about all the plastic used to build my midi controllers...
if you just dig a little you'll find their is an oil spill by someone every few months.. dig even deeper you'll learn about the Dead Zones in the river mouths cause by chemical farming.. on of the biggest dead zones is at the mouth of the Mississippi.. dig down deep and you'll find this
bastards, life is so easy.. all we have to do is eat and drink water
the rest is gravy.. why does it have to be so damn hard for the rich and power full to just chill

-Victor LebowOur enormously productive economy demands that we make consumption our way of life, that we convert the buying and use of goods into rituals, that we seek our spiritual satisfactions, our ego satisfactions, in consumption. The measure of social status, of social acceptance, of prestige, is now to be found in our consumptive patterns. The very meaning and significance of our lives today expressed in consumptive terms. The greater the pressures upon the individual to conform to safe and accepted social standards, the more does he tend to express his aspirations and his individuality in terms of what he wears, drives, eats- his home, his car, his pattern of food serving, his hobbies.
These commodities and services must be offered to the consumer with a special urgency. We require not only “forced draft” consumption, but “expensive” consumption as well. We need things consumed, burned up, worn out, replaced, and discarded at an ever increasing pace. We need to have people eat, drink, dress, ride, live, with ever more complicated and, therefore, constantly more expensive consumption. The home power tools and the whole “do-it-yourself” movement are excellent examples of “expensive” consumption.

BP is concentrating on PR and recovering their well and couldn't care less about containing the disaster beyond what they are being forced to do - which isn't enough. It's already too late.
Big money is running the show and the members of Generation Jones who are in charge seem utterly incapable of seeing beyond their bank balances, vacation homes, and retirement plans. If young people make noise about the complacency and status quo they are labeled as 'whiners' and discounted by the establishment.

Unfathomable? The article, and a slew of others, does a pretty fair job of bringing this all into the 'fathomable' realm, actually. Yeh, it is all fairly fathomable: giant asteroid or gamma ray burst results in the same massive megabio-snuff as what generated all the stuff that turned into oil.LoopStationZebra wrote:bosonHavoc wrote: and the latest from the gulf

What I don't fathom is what happens to all of the toxin they say "evaporates" out of the oil, or if the oil that floats on top of the water ultimately gets picked up as part of the water cycle you learn about in elementary school: you know, the picture with the circular arrow that goes up from the ocean, into the fluffy clouds, and then down onto the snowy mountains, fields and into the rivers.
UTENZIL a tool... of the muse.
Re: am i the only one freaked out about the massive oil screwup?
oil doesn't evaporate when burned, it breaks into Co2 and water, and other carbon compounds. i learned that in grade 10 chem.

BP clearly doesn't have a sweet fucking clue whats going on, or really gives 2 sweet shits either. this makes it official. walrus's and sea lions are listed as one of the threatened animals. SEA LIONS DON'T EVEN LIVE IN THE ATLANTIC.
and their go to scientist died 4 YEARS AGO.
were so fucked, the gulf is basically the nursery/preschool of the atlantic...
http://thechronicleherald.ca/World/1186519.html
this describes a first hand account of a diver exploring the mess. by the description, there is no way they will ever clean this up. little bits will be eaten by fish killing them, and poisoning the food chain, everything else will sink to the bottom choking out everything. coral is extremely sensitive to oil, so that's all gone...
this isn't what could happen anymore, it is happening...
BP needs to be seized, and all available assets given to the coast guard to assist in the the cleanup. the best we can do now is try to stop it from getting to the atlantic. but that is just days away.
we as people have to figure out what we can do, besides sit here and bitch about it.

It's End Times indeed....I have a relative who is an Arch Conservative. I mean BEYOND THE FUCKING PALE.
Yesterday I receive an email from this person with a SEIZE BP chain message attached. This is an individual who has the Pro-BP Fox News plugged into their cortex.
Then this morning I receive another email stating that Wal-Mart is a criminal enterprise that exploits labor and suppliers and that they should face sanctions/fines/charges/etc.
What. The. Fuck. ?

So far no one from BP has been arrested... but they sure have arrested lots of protesters.

BP to fund $20bn Gulf of Mexico oil spill payout
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/world/us_and ... 335114.stm
-----------------
That's great and all since people really like money BUT what about all the fucking oil that keeps on pouring into the ocean?
Scientists estimate that there's upwards of 2,500,000 gallons of oil seeping out daily. That's just short of 10,000,000 liters PER DAY!!!! But really, who knows the actual amount? It very well could be more.
That's hard to believe. Imagine just going to the beach and dumping out that much oil into the water. And repeat. For about 50 days and counting...
And that's not including the oil dispersants, more chemicals that cause the oil to sink onto the ocean floor so the media and public doesn't see it. The ocean floor provides food for something that is food for something that's food for something. It's very very sad (and obvious), but it appears the Gulf is some very serious environmental consequences and it may take years for people to fully understand the extent of the damage.
And still the scariest part of it all is it appears they still have NO IDEA how to stop the oil from pumping into the ocean. Their latest attempt is to apparently cap the well and channel the oil 5,000 feet from the ocean floor to the surface for BURNING. I'm no scientist but that just doesn't seem like a very good idea.
This whole situation is nothing short of disgusting.

On a lighter note (kindof):
