OK, I'll lose my juvenile school boy sense of humour to name-drop. Some of those beautiful deep-sky images were probably taken by the Hubble Telescope, but I would guess that some were taken at the Anglo-Australian Observatory by David Malin, using good old fashioned 3 colour plate film photography back in the old days (they did replace that with digital imaging eventually)...
I met David at a photography workshop/seminar in Trentham (country Victoria) a couple of years ago, where he signed one of his astro-photography books for me. A delightful fellow, with many interesting stories!

Damn cool! That kind of photography back in the day was a major black art. Lots of patience needed and very few around who did it, let alone write a book. I woulda chewed his ear.

Yeah, the current science and tools of observation are too amazing. From Dark-matter particles, to 'ever closer' to the edge of the universe. It's damn thrilling how quickly the powers of observation are growing. Anyway, the photos are pretty thrilling for sunday driving dreamers like me. btw, condoms and big bang theory?... poetry
