from what i remember bears only eat rotten meat. thats why they leave you alone when they think you are dead. but yeah black bears are dangerous.
could be wrong and too lazy to google

Black bears are much less dangerous, and usually in the states anyway, smaller.
Guy I knew literally ran into a black bear running up a trail at night. He immediacy turned around and started running downhill, when looked over his
shoulder the bear was running in the opposite direction uphill!

I think you may be wrong. They'll gladly kill and eat moose calves but they're much more tender, delicious and adorable than a disgusting human. And I think the playing dead thing is to extinguish any semblance of a threat to its livelihood. Once it smells how terrible you smell it will leave you alone, or so goes the theory.
And here's a video from where I live. It's a brown bear ripping out a moose's heart and eating it.

No shit-hopefully instincts take over and you make the right choice. Though if anyone has the fortitude to stay calm while getting chewed on by a grizzly, my hats off to them.
