I have a macbook pro, Yamaha HS7 speakers, a steinberg U12 audio interface and an alesis imultix 16usb mixer. My issue is that I dont know how to properly connect my monitors to my computer so that I can use them for mixing and mastering. What kind of cords I need? Which outlets to plug them in to? That sort of thing. I am a total amateur when it comes to setting this stuff up so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm no Mac expert, but here's what I would do:

Connect the Alesis mixer to the Mac via USB. Connect the HS7s to the Main Out on the mixer using a pair of TRS cables (to the 1/4" "balanced" input on the speaker) or a pair of TRS-to-XLR cables.

The Steinburg U12 has such limited I/O compared to the mixer that you really have no use for it. Return it to the store if you can.
