The irony about a cable free HBO subscription is that you still need the cable company for broadband.

Plus, ffs, all that's going to happen here until Google gets off their asses and lays fiber EVERYWHERE is that the cable companies will keep increasing their rates for internet everytime some company goes to a cable-free streaming model.

The further irony is Google is only putting Fiber in cities where they will most likely just be using it to livestream fly fishing and NASCAR in HD. Even Silicon Valley is only scheduled as “potential”. FFS. :x

The watch band pricing is retarded. The base model is $50 but looks like something you could make with a 3D printer. Next banned up is $150 and price goes up from there. :x

I have fibre here in Luxembourg, they're big on making everything as current as possible at the moment. For a few downloads it's been noticably faster (speedtest says 120mbps down, 65mbps up, for the cheapest package available), but otherwise feels no different than the bog standard cable internet I had in Seattle for day to day surfing. Nice, but not a game changer.

Honestly, the new MacBooks were much more exciting of a keynote than the watch, I still don't get the appeal if you have to still have a new phone with you anyway.

Good to know the watch connects over wifi. When I’m at home I rarely have my phone on me and I thought it would be annoying to have my phone in my pocket at home just in case I get a watch notification. I have no clue what Bluetooth range is.

Still not sold on the watch and pricing structure is annoying at best, but at a minimum I could see it as a (expensive) tool to be somewhat less rude in public. Glancing at your wrist is less intrusive than yanking your phone out of your pocket or keeping your phone in hand monitoring notifications constantly. I try to keep that behavior to a minimum, but even if I physically don’t check my phone it’s still on my mind what I might be missing. A quick glance would at least let me know that I’m not missing shit….which is the case 90% of the time anyway.

but it's important to invest the money it takes to KNOW you're not missing shit.

If you desire attention from the ladies, instead of toting a new MacBook, try toting a used CookBook.

Looking at third party RAM upgrades for the new iMacs and while Apple does charge more, the real raping doesn’t take place until you get to the higher GBs.

Upgrade to 16GB through Apple is $200. Through OWC $174. A savings of $26. :?

Upgrade to 32GB through Apple is $600. Through OWC $342. A savings of $258. 8O

Not sure if this is just because these are the new iMacs and as time goes by the difference in price increases. And maybe OWC is using the Apple tactic of making the smaller upgrade bump seem a lot less appealing for the cost difference. :x

it's just Apple's way of justifying the safety nets for their Chinese labor force.

but don't mistake that justification for compensation... for anything other than Ive's ride, of course.

... and for the record... OWC is gouging too. they're just using lube and whispering sweetly.

Can you recommend a different company?

We’re talking new iMac kissing the $3,000 price. I wouldn’t buy hardware for that from the digital flea market.

I'm sure solid reputations have been made for at least 1 specialized Mac seller and they probably are in direct competition with OGC.

But I’m sure any respectable competitor wouldn’t use Ebay as their only storefront.
