Been watching the Ken Burns series on US Prohibition in the 20’s on Netflix. Interesting factoid: Hitler Youth style “evils of alcohol” was required learning in the public school system just prior to prohibition so it’s no surprise that it passed when these kids were of voting age.

The FCC is considering requiring cable companies to allow you to access full programming through a box of your choosing, not just the boxes they rent to you.

Any news on this always inspires the “I just want to pay for the networks and shows I want on the cheap” clowns, as if current networks and shows are never going to change or get better. If that was the standard then shows like Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and Walking Dead never would have happened because nobody would pay for those channels directly and there wouldn’t be enough money to produce them. Dumbasses.

Its worth watching, but not as edge of your seat or "I can't wait until next week's episode!" as Breaking Bad.

pffft! nothing ever will be again.

glad to hear it's worth watching... i've only got an episode or two left of Gotham before i run out of good stuff. thankfully Walking Dead should be out soon - Marchish i think. i'm hoping Daredevil and Orange is the New Black won't be too far behind... need something to kill time while i wait for S2 of Jessica Jones 8)

Watched the pilot of Vinyl on HBO. Good, but not great. But a lot of new series start out weak and you have to give them 2 to 3 episodes before you decide to continue or not. And really, a 2 hour premiere for a new series is a little much and I didn’t see anything that justified that length. It wasn’t like there was an hour of filler, just not anything that made me feel more committed to the series in the 2nd hour. They could have made it 2 episodes.

Interesting time in music history though, early 70’s, touching on blues and the start of heavy rock, disco, and punk with a brief nod to DJing as an artform and probably rap at some point.

I seem to recall that series sliding downhill after season 2 and I never warmed up to the replacement actor after the original actor died.

And I can’t think of another series at the mo, but it seems Starz has a reputation for short run series that seem to have fizzle out written into the script instead of it just happening naturally. Like instead of reviewing each season to see if they want to do another, they commit to 3 seasons upfront and the 3rd is going to suck before it’s already been written. Actually just thought of another one, Magic City.

i thought Spartacus was good... transitioning from one actor to another did take a little water to wash down all the extra cheese, but only for the first 2 or 3 episodes. once it got going again it was still good. the end was kind of a bummer, but it's not like they could re-write history to help that.

Agreed, once the new actor settled in I was fine with the switch.

I don’t think I ever warmed up to the new actor. I was way more empathetic with the original actor. The new one seemed very one dimensional and it felt more like the original actor got killed off in the show and there was a new sheriff in town.

I thought Rome was a better overall series from the same time period.
