I did mention earlier, It was given the name aluminum but the i was added to fit in with the other elements having ium on the end. My point is that this isn't a colour/color issue. This was simply a naming convention issue that for whatever reason led the US and the UK to have differing spellings.
Since the 'i' was added just to fit in with traditional elemental naming convention, you could argue the US spelling is more correct...
Huphrey Davy originally named it Aluminum and I believe he was British, so in essence the yanks re-adopted the early British spelling and we added the extra i.

At work I seem to listen to audiobooks and podcasts narrated by English persons exclusively. Or maybe it is a coincidence. But I really get a kick out of their pronunciation of the word "figure" - figger. Cracks me up, I don't know why . . . I'd have never brought it up, but then this thread.
