I also think if you are playing for up market clients you should look the part as much as possible as it reflects on them. Of course this depends on the client but i have just been asked to play for some Arabs this week on a mega yacht . I think I owe them the wow factor if I do it. For some reason a don't think a dj controller (albeit a nice one) would cut it tbh. No knocking it btw.

True but something I find kind of silly. Those all-in-one rack mount CDJ systems have been around for a long time and I've seen plenty being used at corporate events and weddings but there's this whole "I need you to look like Tiesto or a MTV spring break bitch party DJ." requests that I guess somehow give off the perception that you're more skilled or professional. And I'd say this didn't become a selling point until fairly recently.

I'm not saying don't use what works for you. I just find that perception silly within both the DJ and the crowd. There's probably more DJs than we know that aren't using decks but they're set up in a booth that has decks so all appearances are they are using them and everybody is happy.

I agree it is silly but sometimes style and content need to go hand in hand especially when people are paying proper money I.e. Four figure numbers. Btw I would never provide the sound system just my decks. I even have another rig for the party gigs I used to do (djm 3000 and dmx 3000 in a rack)
