I need a new XBOX 360 game
Re: I need a new XBOX 360 game
I gave up on AC1 when it got to the part where you have to kill or dodge about a half dozen ninjas, run up a ladder that wasn't easy to grab, jump out a window and scale a few walls and jump a bunch of roofs all in about 10 seconds. Timed challenges are my #1 source of controller throwing and filing the game under "this sucks".
Re: I need a new XBOX 360 game
+1 for AC2 its great. Much better than 1.
Keep meaning to get alan wake but i am not sure about it, i cant decide from the footage whether i would fecking hate it or not. I was watching it since its inception and it started out as a free roam thriller, which had my excited, but now it just looks like resident evil with a torch instead of a gun....
oh and Bully scholarship edition is brilliant

Am I the only one who liked AC I way more than AC II?
I like that they tried to have more mission variety, but in the process they watered down my favorite part of the game, the assassinations and afterwards escape. In the first one you were given 3 or 4 viable options to get to the target and it was up to you to pick how to get there, then after he's dead all hell breaks loose and getting chased could get quite challenging. In the new one you get pretty much led by the hand all the way to the target, then you have to kill the guy who is dressed different, and to escape you either have to kill 3 or 4 NPCs and walk out of a predefined area, or simply wait for the cutscene to show up.
Also, the mission structure is way more like GTA. You have to go from memory start point to memory start point, get ordered around by someone you don't even know or care about, do the mission then on to the next one. I think it suffered from the same problem GTA did where at some point you wish everyone would just stop yapping and got the plague and died already.
The story is cool, though I think Ezio is meh and the best part of his backstory is in the optional Uplay DLC (which you should get, it's free). The glyph puzzles were great, and the PoE origin/conspiracy story told through them was really good, probably my favorite part of the game.

I wouldn't say I liked it way more, but I definitely enjoyed it more than most seem to have. I know what you mean about the missions though. For all the things that they improved with II, the element of the setup to the assassination and then the escape isn't the same. I've heard that the 2nd paid DLC has missions that are more like AC 1.rbmonosylabik wrote:Am I the only one who liked AC I way more than AC II?

Mostly I just love the historical settings of these two games. It's a bold move when things like Modern Warfare are what makes money.

Re: I need a new XBOX 360 game
AC1 started out ok, it just got boring for me quick. I couldn't even finish it, probably one of the only games I can say that for. Step 1, sit on a bench and do nothing. Step 2, press a button until some guy blubbers and tells you a 'secret'. Step 3 ride your horse all the way across the country to get to another town and repeat. Over and over.
Trying to escape after a kill was fun, but getting to that point was just tedious. I hate games where I feel like I'm grinding or doing the same thing over and over, and AC1 was like that for me.
On the plus side the scenery and parkour aspects were awesome, I loved being able to just run anywhere and up on the roofs.

Re: I need a new XBOX 360 game
Funny story on how far games have come: I'm replaying AC2 a bit slower this time because the 1st time I went through it and did everything way too fast (100% it in 3 days, all achievements and all, disgusting, I know) and trying to see if I like it more this time.Tarekith wrote:On the plus side the scenery and parkour aspects were awesome, I loved being able to just run anywhere and up on the roofs.
The other day I was playing while an architect uncle was doing some work on my computer. He takes a break and watches the game for a while. I climb up a tower and do a viewpoint sync, and he goes "Whoa! how do they do that? Maya?", and I reply "yeah, I think so". He starts asking if everything was really there and if the whole architecture is resolved, to which I reply "yeah, the idea is that pretty much anything you see, you can climb" and start doing some climbing and free running nonesense. Thats when that "Hey, this is really cool" thought hit me.
Then my uncle asks if my character ever took a break to go to the bathroom, and the best answer I could come up with was "oh, it's because I'm in a VR like machine"
BTW: Lucy needs more screen time in the next game or I'm out for good.

Is it seriously nothing? Now I'm glad I never bothered with it, and I usually collect the hell out of everything in every game I play. At least give us a trophy for the PS3 version; not sure if there are achievements for the Xbox version.Tarekith wrote:Almost exactly my experience too. Of the whole flag thing, you collected them and got.... nothing? Lame.trikster_b wrote: I hope so, because I really liked the atmosphere and setting of the first, and when an assassination is pulled off perfectly (like I did with the guy on the boat), it's awesome. But more often than not, I would somehow mess up like 200 feet away from the target and have the entire city on my ass, so instead of "Assassin's Creed" it would be "Swordsman Fighting Off Every Annoying Soldier And Dying Before Even Reaching The Target's Creed."
My problem is that if you mess up which I did a lot for apparantly no reason (maybe I just suck at the game) some of the targets go after you and some of them hide; either way it doesn't reset and you have to either die or reload so you can do it again the "proper" way, but you have to watch the cutscenes and do all the same things over again, and it gets tedious everytime. I don't know if it actually resets the target at all, but it never did for me. It just got tedious on later targets when I would screw up and then go "Fuck this" and just kill the target in front of 20 soldiers, defeating the purpose of a game about an assassin.rbmonosylabik wrote:Am I the only one who liked AC I way more than AC II?

My favorite was the guy on the boat (Sibrand?). I spent a long time, like maybe half an hour, trying to figure out a way to get to him by hopping on the boats and then almost hopping on a tree (which I'm sure would have killed me) before I realized I could climb up on the big boat right behind Sibrand. I spent 10 minutes hanging off the side just waiting for the perfect moment to come, and when he turned his back, I jumped up and assassinated him without any trouble at all. It was the best moment of the game for me; I just wish the game had more moments like that.
And regarding Lucy's screen time, just watch any movie or tv show with Kristen Bell whom Lucy is voiced and based on.

Sibrand depicts exactly my point. You did it very stealthy, I did do the whole jumping from boat to boat as quickly as possible, got to the ship, dodged all the guards, chased him down the wall and killed him with the jumping hidden blade attack. What I liked about it is that everyone that played seemed to have a different experience, and even in multiple attempts you could try different stuff. Felt way more organic and lively.

Cool arcade games to check out:
'Splosion man
Peggle
Trials HD
Shadow Complex
thing I like about the arcade games is that they're designed more around good skills-based gameplay rather than half baked stories, graphics/engine showcases, and other useless bells and whistles.

It just works.

Ended up getting AC2 used (half price). Much better than the first one, really enjoying it so far.
