PMs, how long do they sit in the out box

I thought I had sent a couple of PMs then I looked and they are still sat in the outbox after a couple of hours. I can't see any button to move them on... does anybody know how often stuff gets moved from the out box to the receipient?

They stay there til the recipient reads it
