Impressive.

I have made a few pennies but not enough to sustain my habit.

During the dot-com boom in the 90s, I made a lot of money doing multimedia for corporate presentations, which included a lot of my own music.

But as far as the actual "music" business, not a dime.

Sold 110,000 copies of one of my tracks in 1999. Made me enough bank to put me through school. Now it is purely a hobby.

Enough to buy Ableton Live 6 and Soundforge 8 (and upgrade it to Live Suite 7 and SF9) both of which came from mixing and mastering jobs for others. (so not my tunes, although I got credits !).

The first Umbriel Rising album I made sold enough to cover the 300 CDs I made of it (even though I still have a box of about 40 of them in the basement with posters, sold the majority and some were to people who were not family ), but I made every subsequent Umbriel Rising album free thereafter (to download), because it was a bit of a ballache doing all that work for a minor amount of interest.

A couple of the tracks off that album won me some cash which I spent on the Sonalksis Essentials mkII bundle, by getting 2nd and 3rd prize in some competitions.

On my current alternative rock project, I have sold 89 downloads and 14 hand pressed CDs (made on my printer which prints inkjet to inkjet printable CD media and glossy photo paper), which enabled me to put food on the table, pay an electricity bill and keep up my esub to Sound On Sound. I will probably make it available free next year, when I did this with my last album on this project in 2008, I sold less than 50 downloads, but when I made it free, it has been downloaded several thousand times. This shows where people are at these days with music. Free, or rip it off for free, or nothing!

Small potatoes. But I do it for the love and most of the stuff I produce myself is downloadable for free as a result.

I make a few sales a week of my songs on itunes.

I was actually shocked that people bought them cause this one was a joke and put together in about an hour.

And this one was recorded in garage band improv on the fly in about 45 minutes.

too bad all the shit I actually spend my time on goes unheard lol.
