well, it is what it is, and that's an "uber-webcam", that can record depth, additional to the image.
what you do with that info is then up to you. but i can sure see interesting things for realtime video-effects for live-setups.
i, personally, would love to see it getting incorporated in some video-conference tool, together with a 3d tv it would allow nice things.

Check out this Ableton Kinect solution that allows collaboration using midi over IP:

The solution can combine signals from the WiiMote, Kinect, even touchscreens on your mobile phones.
You can start tuning synth parameters in over 20 dimensions, even more if you get you're mates involved.
