arachnaut wrote: My suggestions included musique concrete, but were not limited to such. As far as influence goes: I think musique concrete was influenced by cubism.

Picasso and Stravinsky both influenced the arts in similar ways at similar times. Music Concrete just needed some technical evolution - there were no tape recording possibilities in 1900, but there were photographic possibilities which played out on the fine arts - so there is a technological lag in the various arts.

Now we have a very fierce control over frequency and time in the audio domain - but few take advantage of that - Autotune anyone?

Musique concrete is still apparent in hip-hop, so the influence is quite large.
Let's add The Futurists to the mix: early 20th century art movement: Futurist music rejected tradition and introduced experimental sounds inspired by machinery.

I was about to mention Delia Derbyshire, though I prefer the "white noise" project she was involved in to the Dr Who theme tune.

I scared several women by playing Synergy during sex. People hadn't heard that shit yet in the 70's.

Radiohead - Kid A
I would generally concur with these choices and lots of those mentioned in other posts. Glad to see the emphasis on early electronic music. It surprised me a bit to see how long it took to mention Autechre - Tri Repetae and Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works. I would add a Gas album like Pop or Konigforst. Boards of Canada - Geogaddi? Edit: Seefeel - Pure/Impure.

OT, electronic influenced rock music like Here Come The Warm Jets & Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy, Low, Remain In Light, Chairs Missing & 154 by Wire, Homogenic & Kid A were really influential for me. I'm way off topic now.

Great posts, great thread! Cool stuff guys.

Love it!

Pere Ubu's early work needs mention. They put out great 45s.
Street Waves
30 Seconds Over Tokyo
Heart Of Darkness
Street Waves
My Dark Ages (I Don't Get Around)

And their masterpiece:
Final Solution

Also Public Image, Ltd. created some pioneering music with:
Metal Box/Second Edition
Flowers Of Romance

And while we're talking Synth Art Rock: Let's include Eno's work with:
Roxy Music - Roxy Music, & For Your Pleasure
Nico - The End
John Cale's - Fear, Slow Dazzle, & Helen Of Troy

Filling in a couple GAPING holes:

John Foxx - Metamatic : Next to Kraftwerk, this album alone has influenced so may old/new electronic artist's. Gary Numan said John Foxx era Ultravox was his template for assembling his masterplan.

Human League - Travelogue ; James Murphy(LCD Soundsystem) would have been short a few songs without this album.
