Windows 7 is an eyesore...

Finally started to put the new computer together... new MoBo 16GB RAM, SSD for WIN 7-64-bit & applications new video card with NVIDIA CUDA GPU.
Well Live starts well snappy off the SSD!

Holy shit Windows is ugly!!! :x But switching it to "Windows 7 basic" is OK, you can't change the colour of the windows (light blue) but all the horrendous plasticky fake gloss and blurry semi-see through pukey ugly stuff is then gone. It DOES seem to work very well.

what is the deal with Vista/7 forcing you to use blue colour schemes? I don't want this placid watery crap, I want a nice red-through-orange sunset sort of feel. But you can only do that if you make the whole thing look ancient anyway. :x

Considering how much time people spend looking at it, I'm surprised they've got so few colour-theme options.

My wife just got Windows 7 installed on her work laptop yesterday, and our first thought when playing with it is "It's very busy". She needs dozens of docs open in multiple apps, and having those preview windows constantly popping up if she mouses over dock, distracting. On the plus side I do think it's a step up from Vista.

don't disable aero. this is only a fallback for when the system fails to handle aero for some reason.

enable aero, configure if you want transparency, what color. aero is faster and less powerconsuming than the basic theme. why? because it uses the gpu for drawing, the one device MADE for drawing.

I know that, I know everything. Trim for SSDs and AHCI enabled for SATA in the BIOS before installing Windows not after, or jump through hoops.
I hate Aero it has nasty glossy effects even with transparency off, the designer should be shot. Basic looks OK, and I found a way to change the colours with a utility which does shit to the registry. Pussies that know jack shit about computers are better off paying more for a Mac (tm)

The Windows logo itself demonstrates what is wrongwith Window aesthetically: A rule of graphic design is, not to use too many colours at once. The windows "flag" yellow, red, green and blue. horrible horrible horrible.

When I say basic I don't mean the 98 look, I mean the Windows 7 basic look, no glossy, no transparency no nothing still uses the GPU AFAIK KFC JFK KKK ABC KLM 123 OK

i know basic. the other is 'classic'. get another skin without the glossyness. deviantart has some.

i don't experience any glossiness btw. they are translucent, but not "shiny".

while one should not use much colors at once, there are exceptions. if your have a brand, that shows diversity, then use 4 colours. google does in most their logos, windows does, office does, and quite a lot others do.

what's important is, the logo has to be clearly visible and understandable when only black and white. which the windows-logo is.

oh, and no, only if aero glass is on, it uses the gpu. that one: http://c2.api.ning.com/files/*dYRoIEc9f ... eBasic.jpg does NOT use the gpu (which shows as it creates flickering, the (lacking) animations result in sometimes not-correct drawn windows, etc).
