Re: Your search engine?
Really don't understand why anyone would use anything other than Google TBH...
Re: Your search engine?
Based on the results of this poll I'm going to avoid using the top response and always use the least popular response because the least recognized anything is always your best option.
Re: Your search engine?
^ So, you're going to alternate between Yahoo, Bing, Ask, AOL and "other"?
Re: Your search engine?
Well, so far "other" even has more popularity then the others you mentioned. So that's off the table.sporkles wrote:^ So, you're going to alternate between Yahoo, Bing, Ask, AOL and "other"?
Re: Your search engine?
Yeah, "other" is really bloated anyway.

"Greg sighed. He knew Google's reach all too well: Every time you visited a page with Google ads on it, or used Google maps or Google mail — even if you sent mail to a Gmail account — the company diligently collected your info. Recently, the site's search-optimization software had begun using the data to tailor Web searches to individual users. It proved to be a revolutionary tool for advertisers. An authoritarian government would have other purposes in mind."

Re: Your search engine?
Oh, ok... If I was doing anything to get paranoid about, maybe I would feel differently...
Re: Your search engine?
I'm a different kind of paranoid. I'm the only one that uses my computer at home and I don't live with anybody that would be horrified by what I look at, but I still have my browser history set to delete within 24 hours. This is in case I drop dead at any minute and I really don't want whoever inherits my shit to be making judgment calls on my life based on what they find in my browser history. None of my email accounts or social network pages are bookmarked either. Truth.
Re: Your search engine?
Google for normal things, Yahoo Japan for things that I need here in Japan
Re: Your search engine?
I am a bit pissed off that Google is searching based on my location (which it says it is getting from my IP address). It allows you to change the location but only to one in the same country that I am in at the moment.
I was looking for an alternative last night, I don't want Google partioning my view of the world wide web

You didn't read the story, did You?
Let summarize it for you.
You don't need to be doing anything "wrong" to become a "person of interest" to TPTB.

"GoogleSharing is a special kind of anonymizing proxy service, designed for a very specific threat. It ultimately aims to provide a level of anonymity that will prevent Google from tracking your searches, movements, and what websites you visit. GoogleSharing is not a full proxy service designed to anonymize all your traffic, but rather something designed exclusively for your communication with Google. Our system is totally transparent, with no special "alternative" websites to visit. Your normal work flow should be exactly the same.littlepig wrote:I am a bit pissed off that Google is searching based on my location (which it says it is getting from my IP address).
