yes, but the automation is MIDI...

@scutheotaku, 9v was saying "Audio tracks contain only sound (waveforms) that are not editable with musical parameters, only with sound engineering tools. My conclusion is that, in a sequencer, only MIDI tracks can be considered "music".

even if the automation is not "midi" it's some kind of digital protocol anyway, so his conclusion is that Live contains only MIDI tracks and "midi editable" audio tracks... so following that logic I guess audio tracks just don't exist.

I'm not saying it makes sense, I'm just reaching the logical conclusion of this demented circular reasoning.

midi tracks are those tracks containing "silent" notes and music events (music), audio tracks are those tracks containing only waveforms (sound). Therefore, as an electronic musician, i consider "music" only midi tracks. Audio material must be triggered with midi mapped instruments, as a dogma. Otherwise it is sound, and i can not accept it. Of course, this is my "dogma", not a law. Mastering of recorded acoustic music is another thing, something for sound engineers, not for musicians. In such works "music" is what the original performer played, not the recorded music in the track.

Sound is a mechanical wave that is an oscillation of pressure transmitted through a solid, liquid, or gas, composed of frequencies within the range of hearing

Waveform means the shape and form of a signal such as a wave moving in a physical medium or an abstract representation.

In the sequencer the waveform is an abstract representation.

Your misunderstanding has nothing to do with dogma, you are just very sloppy using definitions.

Reporter to Itzhak Perlman: your violin sounds so good.

Perlman, looking at the violin standing in the corner: I dont hear anything.

This is not MIDI, nor is it music. It is merely a "collage" of musical notation.

Fail.
