jesus man, the English language is morphing into something completely different right in front of our eyes......
most of the kids I teach when they email me all type in TXT speak and spell things wrongly but all in the same way. e.g. to this whole new generation it seems 'phone' is now 'fone' - 'when' is now 'wen'... there's a whole load of words that I think could actually end up spelled this way in the dictionary once these kids are old enough to take the jobs of the dudes who decide what goes in them.
We're seeing the biggest changes to the language at the moment since Shakespeare - but it's worth noting that Shakespeare made up something like 2000 words and spelled things however the fuck he liked.

Re: One spelling mistake that really bothers me...
It'd at least be nice if people misspelled "you're" with "yore". No one ever uses that
Re: One spelling mistake that really bothers me...
it's not to do with spelling but i was almost moved to kill a puppy when i found out that people had actually started saying 'LOL'
instead of, like, you know, laughing

Re: One spelling mistake that really bothers me...
the term "LOL" in italian is a neologism, people on chats etc. use it like an expression, e.g. "haha" (LOL). Just a few know it is an acronym for "laugh out loud". So, if you read italians writing "LOL" it stands for "haha", and the verb is "lollare" (to laugh in a chatroom)... LOL for me means "love of life" by swansmacmurphy wrote:it's not to do with spelling but i was almost moved to kill a puppy when i found out that people had actually started saying 'LOL'

(Anyway, I'm so glad I'm better than you... ARE) ...LOL!
