the penultimate boombox thread that will save the lounge
Re: the penultimate boombox thread that will save the lounge
Ha, yeah. Sounds good. At one point I thought of putting some sort of dj fx/eq but I realised people would would find it too tempting to play with. Me especially.

That's a real beauty man... I saw the parts cost in your other post but I suspect the labor for you to build would trump that by far. I would def consider an aux jack if you go into production. How much power does it push?martin808 wrote:build your own

I'm in the process of building a new version of my boombox. Actually considering building bespoke boombox's to order. They won't be cheap but they will be the best portable soundsystem imaginable.

The amp I built is only 2x25w rms. But this is a class t 12volt amp. It's really efficient and supridingly loud and clear. It outperforms my 2x85w Samson 240v amp in every way. I'm currently looking at a chip made by Texas instruments that's a mono amp putting out 100w with pretty much the same efficiency. I'll be looking at 100w per channel. That's a real beauty man... My boombox has an aux in. There is phono/RCA connections to the left with a switch to switch between the 2 sources. I toyed with loads of ideas like card readers and things bit ended up keeping it a bit more simple. It was quite labour intensive but more on the design side. Trying things then scrapping it then trying again. The speaker designs and ports were the hardest bit to get right. Having a friend who's an acoustic consultant was my saviour.

I used to own that one back in like 83, you know before the big van hallen split.
it was a pretty dope box, it survived two season on the beach in brigantine NJ and then some.
kind of a trip to see a childhood love lol on the abes forums.
i think i eventually took it apart to see what it looked like inside, or something silly like that.

Re: the penultimate boombox thread that will save the lounge
...so far the 931x seems to be my best bet. I know the sound will distort at high volume, but I need something within a price range that I can take it out and not worry about it getting boosted. The TDK looks awesome but too costly & too nu-skool. On that tip, which of these 931x's looks more '80s? I'm leaning towards the white one...

If you think they look 80's and that they're less prone to being boosted despite it having bright colors and holding an ipod in the center along with distorting at high volume then you go girl!

so the black one's in the mail; thinking if I like the sound I might get the entire thing chromed. Found some nice vintage stuff I'd love to get my paws on:

The house of marley(?) jam box doesn't meet all of your requirements. For starters, it has no tape deck. However, I'm digging the 'bag' concept.
