Funny enough I’ve been listening to some Moby classics a lot lately to celebrate a time in history when electronica wasn’t defined entirely by squelchy basses with variable LFO rates. :x

Moby is pretty awesome in general. Weirdo, DJ, Producer, Live performer. Made some pretty good music over the years... and is like the LAST minimal/tribal dj that still rocks teh floor.

"Relevant" maybe not, but still awesome.
Because Whatever.

Moby just headlined Decibel Festival here in Seattle a couple weeks back and killed it.

Right before I saw this thread I got an email about a Moby photo exhibit at a DC art gallery:

Not too far from there, might stop by and check it out in my travels...

I just missed Moby live saturday to get a good spot to see Portishead. I wish I didn't have to, but you know, priorities...

Why do festival organizers always do stupid schedule decisions?

I think the real question should be "was Oakenfold ever relevant ?"

A Moby photo exhibit? :? For Chrysakes next thing you know he'll be hooking up with P-Diddy and Martha Stewart to sell a line of scarves at Macy's.

Haha, yeah I know, I thought that too. Who knows, might be worth checking though amongst the other stuff, it's a nice art gallery I've been there before.

I'm not a huge fan of Moby's music but I don't dislike it either. I agree with the comment about Oakenfold, I don't think he was ever considered much of an influence. He was really pushed marketing-wise in the late 90's, early 2000's but even back then, I didn't ever hear of people going on about how great the music was. So I'm not sure why you brought him up...would have never thought of bringing him up in a topic like this.

Seriously? Like his music or not, Oakey was a HUGE influence on club music in the late 90's, early 00's. Some of the biggest parties I'd ever been to were with him head-lining.

Considering his involvement in the Manchester scene before electronica, as a producer, etc...I think he has some serious street cred. The trance dj stuff was career 2.0 already.
