I just rewatched Alien and have some thoughts.

The plot holes were glaring - LSZ pointed out the "ERMAGAD hole in the floor!" moment, the mass the creature gains from nowhere, and perhaps the most overlooked, the self-destruct button. Why on earth would a cargo tower have a self-destruct button??

There were more but I can't remember them all at this point.

Look at the original Space Jockey. Look at it!. That ain't no friggin' space suit. It's a friggin' fossil. And, in true Giger fucked-upness, it is at one with its chair.

It is most definitely not a removable space suit for an anaemic shaven headed muscle mary.

Much as it pains me to say it, I'm starting to realise that Prometheus has perhaps ruined the greatest, most haunting part of Alien,: what the fuck kind of civilisation grows out of a chair?

It is akin to how old Ben Kenobi, talking to Luke in his mud hut, recounts a tantalising nugget of backstory. As soon as Lucas tries to elaborate on that in later films, the original mystique is ruined for ever. For millions.

I just hope to God they never make the threatened 'USS Indianapolis' prequel to Jaws and ruin the best scene from one of the few films that is even better than Alien.

I've been wondering why they left co-ordinates for a planet they were just testing their WMDs on to primitive people on earth who were thousands of years from space travel when they were planning to come and destroy them themselves any way....

All of the cave paintings are older that 2000 years.
I think the idea is that they are telling the early humans that this is where your creators come from and that one day will will be back to check on you see how things are working out.
This is where the whole jesus part of the story comes from.
There is an idea that jesus was an engineer that came back to check stuff out, but got nailed up instead.
And that because he got nailed up then the other engineers decided it was time to unleash the fury.
They where on their way back to wipe us out when "something" happened up on LV---???(i cant remember the number and cant be bothered looking it up)
Maybe one group of engineers decided it was best just to forget about the experiment on earth and maybe give us a second chance.
The others where all fuck that shit, its time we got some killing done.

I think the black goop takes on the form of what ever the mood is.
For the most part the engineers are an okay self sacrificing and benevolent bunch.
When they are in that mood the goop just kind of breaks them down into their constituent parts.
But then they start getting angry and entertain thoughts of revenge, the goop creates some kind of monster that wipes them all out.
The xenomorph creature from alien is a second or third generation hick up created by the octopus baby monster impregnating the last of the engineers in the escape hatch...

I'm guessing that bad boy some how makes it to another ship on the planet in promefius and winds up on the planet from alien..
that will be part of part two of this franchise.

I somehow missed the Jesus part

but my point was it wasn't where the creators came from but some random planet they used to test out the black goop on - at least that was about the only hint of explanation of that I got from the movie, and that was from stringer bell who somehow worked that out despite being on the ship the whole time

Forge., you're onto something here.

Okay, cave paintings are done pre-Christ as an invitation to come and visit LV-223. :)

Humans eventually show up on LV-223 and it's a weapons factory. 8O

If Christ Engineer hadn't been killed, and humans ended up warm and fuzzy....er....what exactly would have been waiting for them on LV-223? A cosmic Disneyland? Or the same bioweapon facility?

Why does the Engineer at the start drink the Black Goop.

Do they worship the aliens, want to make more of them?

Prometheus part2 lady makes it back to the creators home planet, releases back goo and creates a planet of aliens, so we are the ones that creates a world/race of aliens?

Let me offer a radically different take on the movie background.

Suppose the Engineers are so beneficent that they can no longer fight wars.

Let's say they are attacked by some OTHER alien race. These are the ones that made the biogoop.
(I know the movie starts with the acolyte drinking the goop - but it doesn't look exactly like the stuff coming from the canisters. So it could just be something different.)

Anyway, if the Engineers needed military aid, wouldn't they try to contact he Roman army?

In the book Prometheus - the Art of the Film, there are storyboards not in the movie. In an earlier plan, two Engineers are on the first planet - one is VERY OLD and BLACK, the other much younger and white. It looks like a ceremony or ritual. The old guy gives the young guy the drink.

I thought he drank it so the remains would end up starting human life on Earth.

Saw it last Friday btw, in 3D, which I can't picture enjoying it as much in 2D now, and despite all the flaws, I thought it was fuckin' awesome.
I thought it was more clear cut and easy to understand until I started reading all the questions I avoided earlier on.
Still, hoping for a sequel to come out in hopefully less than 2 years.

I talked to a mate the other night and that's what we thought too, so you only need one engineer to be on a planet, drink the goo, kill himself, release DNA, into river which forms bacteria that evolves into us over millions of years, so they are gods that travel the universe and terraform/populate planets.

Plus there's the self-sacrifice angle which ties into the religious tone.
