how old is your computer?

I saw an update to albino today that talked about improved ppc g4 and g5 compatibility, with an end to g3 support. This kind of took me for a surprise in 2012. I have a core 2 duo that is 4 years old now.....
I was wondering how old the computer many of you users have? I have increasingly begun to adopt a "use it until it no longer works" approach to technology as opposed to wanting the newest, fastest machine....
Wanted to get a sense of how other people are thinking.....
I will say that my co collaborator's I5 I mac does smoke my machine in every way, but I still get pretty decent performance out of my rig.

I bought 3 Macs in the last year. All for personal use and 2 completely unjustified.

what do you do when you don't have a wife, kids, or a mortgage. I just told you!

July 2010 i7 iMac with 8gb ram. It should last me another two to three years (touch wood) and even longer for the 27 inch screen (fingers and legs crossed)

same macbook 2,4ghz core2duo since now 4 full years, and I hope it'll last at least another 4 years, using it both for music production and professionnal documents, internet shit, movies, iTunes, pictures...

but I'll probably buy another dedicated laptop for our live gigs

one you go mac you don't replace a computer, you just buy another one (or two, like beats), but you don't get rid of the older ones, at least, I can't. My last one is now my girl's... (1st gen macbook, wifi dead, dvdrom dead, but works like a charm for everything else)

18 month old iMac for DAW/music stuff etc. 4 year old macbook for internet/business and travel. I am still using an 8 year old P4 PC laptop for my CAD/Solid Modeling.

One of the problems is the cost of repairing stuff to keep old machines running adds up to the point where you really have to question whether it's worth it...

I have a Mac Powerbook G4 which runs ok - a not-too-demanding set in Live 6 runs ok - but if you breathe on the dodgy power cord, the laptop dies immediately - the battery is dead, the power connector is fecked, the RTC battery is probably dead too. Is there any point spending > €300 on keeping it running...?

My current 2009-ish MacBook Pro will probably suffer the same fate sometime soon... Its performance is fine, no need to upgrade at all really, but I don't think that will be the determining factor...

On the other hand, I just bought this 1977 radio off eBay the other day...

...and 35 years later it still works like a charm. Doubt *any* of my Apple products will be working in any useful way in 10 years, let alone 35 years...

i got a compaq laptop that's 2 years old. it pretty much works fine. the 250gb hdd is filling up slowly. i use ableton, reaper, max (though rarely) and some other bits

we got a big desktop which we bought a year ago, i cant fully remember the spec but it works nice, about maybe 6gb ram, 2tb hdd, three screens, and i got my krk rokits doing the sound from it. yum
