The federal jobs don't pay that much more, ok what ever, but it takes two or three people to do one job and then they get 30 days vacation, 15 paid sick days and 10 paid personal days. So the three people it takes to do one job take twice as long to complete the task at hand.

It hasn’t been mentioned yet that it’s near to impossible to get shit canned from a federal government job except in times of extreme recession like we are in now. They’re also permitted to work well beyond retirement regardless of if they aren’t needed.

any organized or for that matter unorganized group of people is going to have issues but not understanding how you have benefited from unions is like a slap in the face to reality. I don't know if you have children but there isn't one person in your family who has not benefited greatly from the existence of unions. This is a clear case of Janet Jackson syndrome, that's when you're not aware of what unions have done for you lately, It wouldn't even be farfetched to say that if unions didn't exist you probably wouldn't be on this forum right now.
your whole way of life and what you expect out of life has been shaped by unions. who do you think is fighting for your/your childrens education, scott walker, the cokehead brothers?, speaker boner (giggles) , the budget plan possesed by the spirit of ronald reagans hair (ryan) …..
there is no inherent evil in organized labor but the recent evolution of our society probably owes more thanks to unions than anything else, sure as fuck more than religion or war.
if collective bargaining was to disappear tomorrow it would be like stepping into a time machine and going back to a place and time that you would definitely not want to visit. some people think going back to the time before unions would be wonderful but you wouldn't last a week. you would find yourself in the golden era of get me the fuck outta here. your safety would be in jeopardy at every turn, that vacation time you talked about wouldn't exist and yours wouldn't exist either, you wouldn't be complaining about a 40 hour work week, and you would not be concerned with your education or your childrens, haa your children would probably be your co-workers and you all would probably be dying from some poison that there was no form to fill out for requesting some one to give a fuck about it. It woud be devastating.

if you really think that you want to get rid of collective bargaining, social security, and med that's like saying you want to shoot yourself in the head, the foot, and the ass.

btw I'm starving because I spend all of my money on music, not because I'm taking something from you, and the legend/rumor of the existence of the Rich Public School Teacher is a myth, most of the people with the country club memberships are the same folks feeding you that line of bs. and they're not teachers.

You need to get off of your soap box and grow up. I grew up in the coal fields of WV. I've been around unions before you were born. I also know what they stood for and what they have evolved into. You need to quit listening to your liberal professors and start learning the truth for yourself.

This is the problem with most people. They believe only the BS that is fed to them. They don't know how to research and learn things for themselves. Throw some free money out there and you have their vote for life.

there is no inherent evil in organized labor

God help this country if you are what we have to look forward to.

Sorry, could you type a little louder? I didn't quite get that.

The idea of individual bargaining is nothing but a faint dream. The majority of people would have no idea they're underpaid at all. That's exactly why the private industry/corporations/lobbyists need to tell you how bad labour unions are. And it's so easy, too: all you have to do nowadays is to label it socialism.

And, seriously: you should be a little more careful with your use of pejoratives.

I will make one more post then I'm done with this.

If unions are for the people they are supposed to represent. Why are they holding on to millions of dollars and giving it to any political candidate?

I will retract the offensive remark.

please don't go we're just getting to the crux of things, no need to worry about offending anyone with language over here, we like letting the cream rise to the top.
I'm trying to decipher your coded innuendo but in the meantime I'd love to hear a thorough description of what you actually think unions used to stand for and what you think they have evolved into?

I'm curious what your basis of comparison is. Which sorts of jobs in particular?

I'm not so much for unionization, myself, or at least the impetus that drives unionization (it's an unfortunate, but perhaps necessary thing).

That said, I'm not sure I understand your question as it's phrased, but I'll try - why wouldn't a union contribute to a political campaign that served the interests of the union's constituents?

It depends on the gov't job. In my particular industry/expertise, there are certainly gov't jobs with NASA, but the salary isn't worth a box of poop. This doesn't invalidate your claim, of course (nor am I immediately looking to do so), but I do wonder what sorts of jobs you mean.

Unions began to help people that worked in unsafe conditions and were not compensated with a FAIR wage. Today they are for their members only to line their own pockets. Please tell me what giving money to a political party has to do with protecting workers rights against an employer. Why should any union have more cash than the corporation the members work for? Maybe they are taking more in dues than they should. Why? It's not hard to figure out.
As posted earlier, I have seen a union protect a member that missed more days in one year than they worked. It is a way to make their self look good and justify the money paid in dues. You wouldn't see this years ago. The Democratic party used to be for the people. Today they are just like the unions. The mentality of people is to believe that just because someone gives them something they are good. By giving handouts they are doing nothing more than buying votes to keep themselves in office. Why would you give free healthcare or no taxes on a business for seven years to someone that isn't even a citizen.
At what point do we run out of money. Our tax base has dwindled away because of businesses going to other countries. You may believe this is because the rich want to make more money. It's more because the Federal Government has given the EPA the power to do just about anything they want. The easiest way to control someone is with fear.
I know I rambled on but it all ties together. You don't have to like or believe what I say. Obviously you seem to be smart enough to decide for yourself. All I ask is you keep an open mind and think about some of the points I made.

One thing I mentioned earlier and felt it important enough to bring up again. Why would the united mine workers union back Obama when he said he would bankrupt anyone that tried to build a coal fired power plant? How can they represent their membership and give their money away to someone that would put them out of work.
